Has anyone seen the tv show Changing U??
a blantant rip off of Queer eye, except it has four women doing it instead. Why does Korean television always have to be so blatant when they copy other programs... makes me wonder what the writers and producers really do all day?? sit around and watch the original show for ideas??

If it is true, I think it is a great idea. What is wrong with it? Maybe they'll put some foreigner on the show.

Is there a TV show in North America that has a word in its title which is allowed to be aired on TV, advertised in the TV listings, but is banned on Dave's ESL Cafe?

the difference being if an australian version of survivor was to be played in australia, the production company would have to pay a huge price to the original production company...
here they just rip it off without even mentioning the original version in the credits

Well, you said that there are four women doing it, and they are, well, women. Probably straight ones.

That's probably largely why it isn't in breach of any copywright laws.

Besides, calling it 'kweer eye...' in Korea would likely be a dodgy trade description, since they is all women innit?

And you could say, with that in mind, that 'Kweer eye..' is a rip off of other pureile and meaningless make-over shows that you get on daytime TV all over the world. This shows attraction, and amusement, is that they is all batty. Laughing It would be just another crappy make-over show if they got straight people to do it.

"These five gay guys show a straight guy how to be more gay."

Someone on the Tube.

Most of America's reality TV is blatant ripoffs from European shows. It's not just Korea that steals ideas. If it is a good show, I see no sense in adapting it to another language or country. It's all about entertainment.

For the record. I would love to see hollywood develop some Comedy Shows Korean style where we could see some of the actors show more of the personal side. I think it is Gag Concert or the show where they pretend to be students and talk to their teachers, via TV.

NB: Also 90210 is a rip-off of Degrassi Jr. High in Canada.

Anyone else notice that the Korean rip off basically stripped away the gimmic that made the American show semi unique to begin with?

Three's Company and All in the Family were ripoffs of British shows.

Right. I find that the women on the Korean show aren't as funny. They try to be, but it comes off as being a bit forced. Maybe the show might be better (and closer to the original) if they had gotten Ha Ri Su and Hong Suk-chon (the first openly gay Korean celebrity, and a very funny guy) to host it.
