kangnamdragon- i think you missed my point but anyway is less govt regulation always better? history is littered with examples of failures of too much govt regulation but something conservative americans have collective amnesia about is there are just as many failures because of lack of govt regulation. one example being the pharmaceutical companies of the US (compare the us system to the aussie system for example), enron, treatment of environment and so on. the devil is in the detail.
in the US there is the attitude that people who may just be normal and happy to do a normal job receive subsistant wages and people who don't have a job get jack. that's fair enough but you have to accept consequences for this i.e. that there is more crime, poor people never have the opportunity to reach their full potential etc. i think this is inherently unfair. the us operates on the principle that if you work hard you too can become a millionaire. How many people actually achieve this? i would rather pay a bit more tax and see normal workers get enough to live with some honour. i'm glad i don't have to live in a country with such a dog eat dog mentality. |
