I saw something today I don't think I've ever seen in Seoul: an empty store front. It was up on hooker hill, actually. A hair salon was closed and empty. (No doubt a casualty of the prostitution crackdown.) Anyway, in more reputable areas, I can't recall ever seeing an empty store front. I've seen a lot of business come and go in my neighborhood and around my favorite haunts. However, the moment one business moves out, some new business moves right on in. It's like shark teeth.

I drove past an old factory in Jeollanamdo countryside today. It looked pretty old and abandoned. plenty of shops like that out here.

Same in Ulsan... For a while everything was cool around here and now there are a lot... Sorry... My Korean typing is going to suck... Ӵ
Signs up... When I first read it I had no idea but I started seeing enough and figured it must mean, "vacant" or "for lease/sale."

Hongdae is in pretty sad shape these days... there are many commercial vacancies scattered throughout the neighborhood.

And there's gonna be one more as soon we we close up shop.

The short version: Business sucks. The rent and bills are eating up just about all of my paycheck from my side job. My girlfriend and I have decided it's time to cut our losses and move on.

i walked by tons of them every day when I went to work in Bucheon. I didn't get it. They kept on putting up these massive buildings while the ones they just built were at least 50% empty. And they stayed empty the whole year I was there.

That's too bad. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I wish more foreigners here could do something other than teaching. I regret that I didn't know more about your business. Promoting yourself on the forum I guess is a no-no, even though doing so would benefit some people like yourselves. That's a shame. Sad

So when these store owners vaccate, do they remove all the garbage and old mattresses etc. from the front?

I atually did promote our place on this board when we had some charity nights in hopes of benefiting both ourselves and those less fortunate.

Unfortunately for us both, there was next to no interest (though to be fair, Ilsanman did come by and drop off some folders for our Iraqi Schoolkid drive).

I hope it all works out for you.
