I have seen this term used in English editions of Korean online newspapers- if someone has ppali ppali syndrome they are always rushed, running everywhere, etc. I tried to render it as "ppali ppali byong" in a Korean composition and my teacher didn't know what I was talking about. Is there a way to say this? My composition is kind of lame, but this phrase was the punch line-
"Oh, you've caught ppali ppali byong!"

Haha, eh?

I hear "bali, bali, jaseyo" a few times a month.

I've even caught myself saying it a couple of times.

Even in a small town on an island there are times and places that seem full of busy people, like the supermarket in the evenings. In contrast the big city of Busan seems more rushed at all times, though not all places, as those in the busy entertainment district of Nampodong, shopping area of Gukje Market and at the beach Haeundae usually seem more relaxed.

A benefit of coastal living perhaps.

It's when you get home and find yourself still using the terminology- that's when you gotta worry.

It goes to a lack of planning (yes, that old bugbear), which connects with no sense of time-management, which results in the body-checking hustle (for men), and the fake run (for women). The fake run involves the feet moving faster, skittering even, while the body above continues to move at a walking pace. It's good to have a ringside seat when the uni classes begin. It's 'Lord of the Flies' writ large.

They do the same thing in Japan. The teachers I worked with (especially women) would not stop that irritating fake run.
