Excuse the spelling and the grammar mistakes i am in a bind and need help. I am living in New Jersey and recently graduatedin Aug 04. Been offered many jobs to teach in Korea. But here lies the probelm. I was told by my school that i will not recieve my diploma until jun 05 because they only print the diplomas once a year. However i was given by my school, which is Seton Hall which dont care about you but just your money, a letter of certification and transcript and ws tod that would be sufficient to recieve a job overseas. However after talking to future employers about the situation they told me i would not be able to recieve a work visa until they recieved my orignal dipoma. I really do not want to wait until June to start mylife I want to start now. I was hoping I could get some advice form people who may have been in a similiar situation or know sone who has been. PLease i would appreciate it and once again forgive the spelling i am a litlle upset |

As far as I know, Immigration in Korea requires your original diploma or a notarized copy of your original diploma in order to get an E-2 teaching visa.
If your school doesn't print them until June then I guess you are out of luck getting an E-2 in Korea.
Your school has a policy that doesn't account for Korean Immigration and I can't imagine either of them making an exception.

The quickest solution is to focus on your school and not immigration.
I was in a similar boat, and there are a few possibilities with immigration but even those solutions will require cooperation from your school.
(Basically they create a certificate that looks like a diploma saying you graduated and stamp the shit out of it with school stamps.)
Like I said though...focus on getting your school to release the diploma early. They have the ability to do this you just need to talk to the right person at the right time with the right attitude and if they are feeling generous they will do it.
I was told it was imposible and after 3 weeks I had it at my door.
A word of adice though...don't get mad at people no matter how frustrating the situation seems.
Pull a Bart Simpson.
Can I have it now?
How about now?
Now?
Maybe now?
I'm just calling to see if I can get it now.
Hi can I walk to the school with you...I'm looking to get my diploma now.
I know it is uncomfortable when people chat at the urinal but can I get my diploma now?
You get the picture...(P.S> there are a few existing threads on this...do a search for more info...) |

I was in a similar situation with my university in Canada. I was done my Final exams in early April '04 and they wouldn't hand over your degree until May 26th at the earliest. I was pretty upset since I pretty much had a job lined up here in Korea. I just waited it out and came over. I didn't have to wait 7 months or whatever you have to though. I agree that you should talk to everyone and anyone and get some strings pulled if possible. |

turtlepi1,
Good suggestion.
However, remember some people like to keep the campus police number on speed dial.
"Get off campus, now." |

I've heard that you may be able to get your diploma early by ordering a replacement. If you lose your diploma (or for whatever reason you want another copy), you can order a new one through the registrar's office, and they have a new one printed for you from your records.
Assuming that they have you on record as having graduated, they may not even notice you haven't gotten your first diploma yet and send you your "replacement" as ordered. Contact your registrar's office and obtain the necessary application for getting a replacement diploma. Don't bother telling them you haven't actually gotten yopur first diploma yet. I don't know if it will work, but definately worth a shot IMO. Good luck. |

Maybe you could get a copy of your final transcript sent directly to them in a sealed envelope - or, send it to them yourself but highlight the place where it confirms that your degree is complete and you are graduated. I can't think of any reason they would not accept this, along with a note saying why the actual diploma wasn't available and a date when it would be. |
I've heard several stories of people who wanted to try this, but were told by immigration that it wasn't enough. |
