Actually they don't irk me, but I thought I'd start a thread in response to another one. Here are some:
1 - . I know your dictionary says that this word means 'have', but stop using it for 'do you have a girlfriend?' I don't carry her around, and she's not an inanimate object. Mine isn't, at least.
2 - Mixing up and ݸ. , ? ¥?? ! Or the guy that asks kids ߾? ؾ!
3 - People that don't realize that all words should be pronounced in a Korean way, whether they come from English or not. California Ծ! California! ű ? (Just say kellyponia, they'll understand if you do!)
4 - The guy that pronounced sanbon as san-bone every single time. San-bone............
5 - People that try way too hard to pronounce and stretch it out to two or three syllables. It sounds awful. |

I speak very little Korean, and so I respect anyone who has taken the effort to learn the language while they are here. So foreigners in Korea don't speak perfect Korean.. wow, shocker. So what? At least some of us are trying (and most importantly: not being stuck up about it). |

Uh oh..I may be guilty of this one. How is it supposed to be pronounced?
My biggest pronunciation gaff is that no matter how much I try, I just cannot pronounce doen -- as in doenjangjjigae -- right. Instead of , it comes out sounding more like . Anyone else have this problem? |

This is the same thing as the "Korean English that irk me" thread, and I don't see anyone poopooing that thread. Lighten up, man. |

Say it like the girls' name "Gwen", with a "d" sound and a shorter "-we".
Or, you can just get away with "den", as long as you don't make the "-en" too flat. Instead of a wolf's "den", more like a "ten".
...
Bugger it.. just say it and most people will figure it out. :)

I cant believe the number of people on this forum who will hate on you if you made the effort to learn Korean. Comments like 'not being stuck up about it' is like someone saying 'you sold out to the man' to a guy that finally made it out of ghetto. |

All this stuff about if you try to speak korean you should be immune to criticism is ridiculous. if your korean is shite it's shite. Mine is slightly above shite only because I studied my a** off (and 4 hours of language school every day for 6 months)
Just because koreans say your korean is good doesn't mean it is (false flattery is rampant) What mith says is legit. Ok sure, it's good you started to learn, but you can still sound like a dumba** (as I do everyday) |
