Most Korean parasites are acquired by marriage, I hear.
seriously: scientists have linked an increase in parasites to the degradation of the environment, as well as more intensive farming practises, and crowded human conditions. |

I could see pork making you sick but Ocean fish can't be that bad, though afriend did mention Jeju has a lot of heavy metals in the fish here. Maybe Korea has more tainted meat, not sure bout the Kimmchhee it already gone bad so I doubt it could get rotten. |
i did not say that the parasites were bad for yu... usually they are not. but if yu eat a lot of raw fish yu will get a significant parasite burden. whether that affects yu or not depends on many factors - mostly your general level of health....

The one that's getting the bad press in Korea now is "distoma", which I believe is the liver fluke, which causes schistosomiasis.
Anyhoo, the nooz is telling people not to eat uncooked freshwater fish. |

I once got crabs here from being in the hospital.
(I was in for about 3 weeks, and i think they didn't change the sheets before me cuz there was a doctors strike. way back in 2000 y'all)
Crabs are kinda parasites, yeah? |

| I think one can get sick anywhere new, adjusting to unfamiliar food, drink, water, etc... I got sick many times in Korea but mostly in first 2 years. Still the cleaniness of food and drink is often questionable. |

What about the @#$% (rhymes with 'hit') pigs in Cheju Do ? They are fed on human waste, or so I've been told. Is that true ? If so they must be absolutely loaded with parasites.
I really wouldn't want to eat any meat from one of those pigs - apart from the mere thought of it they must be a real threat to one's health. |

It's true. When I visited Cheju Island a few years ago, I saw them with my own eyes. It was one of the tourist attractions. |

The best way to kill parasites in fish is to freeze it for at least a week, since no one likes to overcook fish...
I just never had a taste for the raw stuff. |

| Bah, if you smoke, drink a bit too much, and don't exercise regularly, parasites should be the least of your worries. |

Between the Merck Manual of Treatment and Diagnosis, and the Korean Journal of Parisitology, both in English and on line, you should get a general frame work of it all.
I'm tired of posting on this topic. It usually comes up on "I have a mysterious ailment."
Walk into any pharmacy, next to the water cooler you will see an ad, its for an atihelmanthetic. Albenzadole is the latest. They hand it out to schoolchildren every three months.
Adults won't talk about it because it causes embaressment. |

Hey mysterious,
I know you are correct. People on the board, if you have a question about this kind of thing or anything pharmaceutical, mysteriousdeltarays is a good one to ask. |
