| I left Korea because of the job, not because of Korea. So yes, I thought Korea was a nice place. I miss it sometimes. |

| Go and work in Mexico or Central America for a couple of years and you will LOOOOOVE Korea, I positively guarantee it. |

Really, why's that? Maybe you could start a thread. It sounds interesting and there must be lots of reasons. Money would be better here, I guess. But what about the cultural difference. Way more open, spontaneous, free and upbeat culture, 'warm people'. Besides money, I'd think it would be reversed |

I went to Hong Kong for 4 days, and absolutely loved it. Someone else told me it sucks.
We live here long enough to stop living like tourists and start experiencing what Korea is really like. That's why we complain. |

| At this time of year, when the leaves are turning and the weather is fine, and the ajumas are feathering their nests, Korea is indeed a pleasant place to be. I do like it here at such times, but I will never love it; ultimately, the negatives tend to outweigh the positives. The 'gross' level at which much of daily life is lived here can grate. Is there a more obtuse race anywhere? Nonetheless, there are redeeming features to be found here. |

That must be the 20th time Kirk's been told that on this board. My favorite wordsmith on this board bar none. |

| When I was in Korea I could feel the enormous amount of energy in the place and the people. Koreans are confident and see the future as positive. I have to say I liked that kind of 'pumped' feeling that Korea had. |

i think korea has lost a little of that positive energy in the last year or two though. The economy slowed down in 2003 and hasn't quite returned to the kind of growth it is accustomed to.
During my first year in Korea, i'd definitly agree with you though. |

Having just come back to Korea after three years teaching in Europe (great job, $500/month ) I often think it's a nice place. And I often think it's not, mostly depending on my mood. Good thing: my sense of personal safety; bad thing: loss of personal space. Good thing:everyone wants to help you; bad thing: whether you want help or not. Good thing: having the wayguk card if you need it; bad thing: not being able to pass as a native if you just keep your mouth shut. Good thing: great variety in food; bad thing: lousy beer. |
