| Anyone else find themselves watching the news just to hear her say "Seo-ul"? There's something so nice about that accent coming out of a Korean face after a long day of Konglish. |

She doesn't do much for me.
Actually the whole of Arirang news does little for. There could be North Korea invading and the lead story would be that the economy grew by 1.176% in the last 13 months or something to that effect.
Sometimes there is a little bit of useful info on there but I just watch KBS News, a hell of a lot better, even if I don't understand not quite all of it.
BTW...the weather girl is a wacky one, who is doing her wardrobe???? |

I call her Hongdae girl, she used to look like she was ready to hit the clubs after the broadcast

Does it bother anyone else when you here koreans who speak near perfect english constantly pronouncing Seoul as Seo-ool i.e. the correct korean pronunciation. If I have to call Sydney Shi-du-ni then isn't it fair enough that koreans pronounce korean cities in the english manner.
nah, probably doesn't bother anyone else. It just really stands out amongst the admittedly very good english of many korean presenters. |

| But this is Korea - why should Koreans pronounce it differently? Should she pronounce Kyobo as Ki-owe-bow so that the G.I.s can understand? I am in favour of using the correct pronunciation for every foreign word or place-name - ie Melbourne is NOT pronounced mell-borrrn (for the North Americans out there), and Brisbane is NOT briz-bayne... If I am going to speak words from a foreign language, then I am going to try to pronounce them properly - to do otherwise is insulting IMHO. |

| WAIT! What about the other woman who is a reporter on Arirang news. I forget her name, but her accent is TERRIBLE. I don't just mean that it's non-standard in any way - but that she mixes pronunciation from all over the world. Occasionally she'll roll an /r/, then she'll spit out a new variant of a vowel...just annoying to hear. Anyone know who I'm talking about? He voice is high pitched and devastatingly yuck. |

Did you know "Bangkok" is only used by foreigners? Everyone in Thailand knows that the name of the capital is Krungthep

Ahn Chak-hee grew up in Vietnam and went to British schools there. She then moved to Korea and got a master's in English from Yonsei Univ. Soon after, YTN hired her for its English-language program that the network later scrapped.
I met her a few times and she seemed ok as a person, though a bit snobby like other YTN people. She's also married to a Korean prosecution official. |
