I'm here for a second year and will most likely be here for a few more to come. I want to buy myself a dog, with a pug being my favored breed. Does anyone know where I would go to get myself one? Furthermore, where can I find a decent vet clinic in Seoul where I can get my new pooch imunized and whatnot? Thanks in advance.
Cheers

Where are you in Seoul? I know two good vets (one of them speaks English quite well) not far from Gwanghwamoon.
P.M. Davyteacher (I think that's his name...). He volunteers with a vet clinic in Busan that helps rehome dogs and cats -- maybe they have a pug. I believe they'd help you get your dog, and they may know of other shelters. |

What about a poodle? Then you could colour it's ears and tail pink...
That would be cool..... |

Be careful if you decide to buy a dog on "pet street" near Chungmuro. Not all pet shops raise puppies in a hygienic setting. I have heard of a number of situations where the puppies have died within weeks of purchase and after a 1,000,000 won or more vet bill. You could try to have a Korean friend help you check on-line for some Korean family selling pug puppies. There are a number of decent vets in Seoul. Mine is pretty good. |

My poodle (no he isn't dyed nor will he be -- nor does he have a horrid poodle cut ) came from Chungmuro and although he's the sweetest little guy in the world, I agree with lawyertood. He's healthy now, but we actually even had him tested for distemper at one point -- AND he had scabies (which is contagious to humans). Fortunately, his personality is amazing and he's very intelligent... but I suspect we lucked out there. Good luck!!!! |

true.
i would NEVER buy an animal from a pet store. anywhere!
not only are they usually disease ridden, but they are often taken away from their mother at such a young age that their behavior is affected. they don't learn their breed behavior and often have temper problems. |

The West Highland White Terrier, according to notable authors originated at Poltalloch, Scotland, where they had been bred and maintained for more than 100 years prior to their appearance at dog shows. In 1916 Colonel Malcolm of Poltalloch said that his father and grandfather both kept them. It is probable that the lineage of the Malcolm dogs goes back to the time of King James |

When you're commenting on intelligence (even if you're commenting on the intelligence of a poodle) you should be careful not to make a rather large typo. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it is just a typo... right?
Poodles are one of the more intelligent breeds. They have a tendency to be neurotic and aren't as physically stable as some other breeds, which is why they are never chosen as work dogs. They just look stupid because of the terrible haircuts and dye jobs they get. But that would be like me thinking you're stupid you made a typo... and I haven't come to any such conclusion. |

I never would have in Canada either, and now I never will in Korea... I was somewhat desperate to get a dog, and it had to be one I wasn't allergic to. I tried other avenues but to no avail... I am somewhat guilt-ridden for possibly supporting the puppy-mill industry, although I was assured that my little guy came from someone's home (which is mildly better). |

We got our little guy from one of the bigger pet stores in Chungmuro, we took him to the vet on post and he's 100% healthy, I honestly think its pot luck as to whether you get healthy one or not, I mean looking at some of the stores I wonder how they can sell them at all, the conditions they live in. Theres also a English speaking vet just outside of Itaewon, she's pretty good, but be careful because sometimes they will charge way too much for the treatments just because they can speak to you in English. She seems pretty decent though. On average though treatment for pets here in Korea is alot more expensive than most other places. Good luck though |
