Read, read, read!!! Especially novels. Grammar gets incorporated into the story, so it's "easier" than studying. Plus, "real" English is used as opposed to "book" English (fine, thank you, and you!!!).

Penguin and Oxford have some good "graded readers" which can really help!

Amen!

Depends on their learner type.

Yes, and it also depends on how much time, money, and current language skills they have.

My Korean GF speak almost pefect English, she is an unusual Korean.

She spent 5 years studying in the UK and had very few Korean friends in the UK, in fact sge actively avoided speakking to Korean and made a lot of English and Japanese friends who she would always speak to in English. She hung out with generally smart people like me and my friends and has a huge vocab and near total fluency.

Yes her English did improve when we started our relationship.

There is a 'magic pill' :wink it is called damn hard work and a passion to learn.

If I'n ever to get really good and above 'survival' Korean I'm afraid I have to dump my gf and get together with someone who cant speak English and stop my ESL career! It's not going to happen.

I guess I need to find a tutor.

And yes learner type is very important. Most people do learn better if they 'do' it though. Most Koreans who learn from books cant speak English as my semi-self taught Korean is horrible compared to what I've learned from taxi driverrs.
