yeah gotta crackdown on those criminals helping people improve their english. I mean how low can you get, taking a poor innocent korean and forcing you to give them money in return for helping their future employment prospects. How about cracking down on corruption or pedophiles rather than people who actually help korea.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong so I apologize if I do and this seems like lecturing. That said I guess Koreans assume they're paying their hard earned money to someone with some minimum government-set qualification. How many novice English students are in a position to determine if their English teacher is qualified and teaching them properly?

Fraud is fraud and people don't want to pay their hard earned money to someone who misrepresents himself.

Granted there are some people with fake degrees who make better teachers than some tard who stumbled through a degree in Sociology and remembers only two things from his school days: the cute korean girl who sat next to him in Survey of Computer Use and "home coming" had something to do with mixing jello and vodka.

However, ultimately, the Korean teaching industry has to rely on what North American business has always relied on: someone with a BA is, on balance, a safer choice as an employee.

I don't see the problem here for people with legit degrees.

I didn't read the article, I just assumed it was a crackdown on privates. I didn't know it was issue of qualifications. I should have read the article before posting

As far as I know, it has nothing to do with qualifications. I have heard of two people in the last 10 days who got refused an E-2 visa because they had been on tourist visas for over 6 months. Although, as Chronicpride said, it will probably die down soon...

Over 6 months implies they were on multiple visas even if they were Canadian or Australian. That's a bigger red flag than someone who was here for one visa...and in the case of Canadians that is 6 months for one visa...

Just a thought before dave's creates more hype than fact....once again.

Well, it was bound to happen at some point.

They just busted a university teacher (foreign) teaching on a fake degree here. It ended up he had only a high school diploma.

I agree with the minimum set qualification point made in this thread. Just like with anything else, when you pay for something or for a service you want to be sure that this service is performed by someone with minimum recognized qualifications.

From Horny to Holy; Itaewon goes spiritual November 12, 3:26 PM view (69)

Quote:
In the wacky world of Itaewon nothing should surprise you, but when seedy massage parlours morph into Christian cafes, you know something is afoot. Itaewon is changing, and maybe this is just the latest stage of the gentrification of the district. Maybe it's the imminent departure of the US troops from the area, or maybe its the effect of the month long crackdown and the curfew, but Itaewon is far less sleazy than it once was. While many will no doubt rue the morphing of the main drag into a Gangnam style parade of coffee shops and Armani peddlers, it looks like the districts 'finest' days are behind it...

From todays Joongang Ilbo, Mike Ferrin takes a closer look at what used to be the New York Massage Parlour......

Spreading the word, at a lower volume

Did they change the article or what am I missing?

Itaewan is turning Baptist Christian?

Recall God types singing X-mas carols in front of KFC.

A sad era---Itaewan we hardly knew ye! Inevitable with the base moving-----the idea of another Kangnan makes me nauseous (aint even in Kor at the momeny.) Better start sending my resume to Thailand Wink I hate the thought of walking down Itaewan street pining for the good old days!
