Alright, last night, went to Suwon's Nammun to go to a birthday party for a schoolmate of mine, held at the Wild Turkey Club.
Despite the club's wierd name, overall, it was a decent venue.
I heard about Epik High beforehand, Tablo, one of three of Epik High, completed both his undergraduate degree and graduate degree in Creative Writing at Stanford University. Rumour has it that he was top of his class.
Nevertheless, his actual flow and crowd control speak louder than his academic credentials in the Hip Hop realm. I gotta admit, I usually don't like Korean rap, but I really loved his beats and general rhythm. I didn't really know exactly what he was talking about, but his songs tackle "the sensitive social issues, such as world peace, the gap between the rich and the poor, and capitalism".
I don't really know if he's the equivalent of a Korean KRS-1, but he's definitely worth a listen.
My recommendation would definitely first listen to :ȭ
It's their biggest single right now on the charts. If you don't like it, you probably won't like the rest of their stuff.

Another korean rap song i dig is "street life" by DJ DOC.. you don't really have to understand korean to like it, very funky beat.

I'll give a heads up earlier if there's another show that i get to go to
pics should be up on my blog sometime today

Good times last night. Good scene, good people, lots of girls, and good beats. Epik High is probably the best korean hip-hop I've heard. Who says you have to go to Seoul to have a good time?.....

Epik High used to be alot better, but they have been manipulated by their label. Far from what they used to represent. But they're making some more cash these days, so they seem happy.

As for DJ Doc, I find them to be up there with Seven in terms of hip hop.

i agree, DJ DOC is pretty hip-pop (especially if you knew them back in the days of "winter story".. But I do admit, street life was pretty impressive for a korean hiphop track. They also put out this one song two years ago or so.. most korean swearing i've ever heard in a song, its about the Korean paparazzi. Jazzy jeff is coming to town dec 3rd.. rumour has it

Just bought the High Society CD last night and I must say that it's pretty good. I've only listened once, but on first impressions, 4.5 out of 5 I'd say.
