Saw an ad for a normal-looking job in Bundang paying 2.7 with housing. Would you automatically believe such an offer to be too good to be true? Maybe they are desperate? But would they actually honor that offer? What are the odds? Or might it be long hours with large classes? Guess one would have to see for oneself.

They probably expect more than what a person with no experience can deliver, thus they are willing to pay for it.

2.7 is high for a starting wage for a job with no requirements, but not high for any job where the school wishes for proven good teacher with experience and talent. Personally, I've had offers for higher amounts before.

Think of it this way. Back home you can pay the 9 year old $4 to cut your lawn who has never used a lawnmower before , or you can pay the 14 year old with the lawn cutting business $10 and get your lawn cut properly and on schedule.

jajdude- I'd be inclined to agree with you - it's the "if it's too good to be true" principle.

Having said that, it might be on the up-and-up. But one would be wise to proceed with both eyes open.

Also, I can't let Gord's post go without comment. Me thinks he posted not to provide helpful advice, but so he could write "I've had offers for higher amounts before".

Lemon, did you even read my post before commenting on it? I specifically addressed the question at hand and why it could be legit, considering that details on the job were lacking. I even explained in simple terms why it could be legit.

Your response was "too good to be true", but it could be legit for reasons unknown.

Yet you feel the need to cite my post as without merit?

EDIT: The only reason I included "I've been offered more before" was to head off nay-sayers who would simply say "nay! No one pays that much!". If money was the only factor in hiring people, Korea would be overun with people from New Zealand all working for 1.5M, housing optional.

bottom line...do the research! call them up and find out what the real deal is...ask to speak to the teachers at that school.

bundang is a "rich" area, even compared to gangnam. i have friends who have worked at both JLS and Kids Herald in bundang, and those schools' salaries were typically higher (though not by much) than their sister schools in seoul.

I think I read the same ad. The 2.7 million includes the rent money. So, you still have to pay for the rent out of that. It is deceptive.

Bun-dang IS a rich kids/folks area, with everything that goes along with that. Good & bad. (our school has a place there, so I know about tuition, parents, etc.)

Salary could well be in that area, and with housing. Whatever it is, it is a fraction of what the school is getting! MML.

In any case, if you are here, go to check it out!!! My personal opinion is that if someone can get decent housing, a good job, and anything in the 2.2-2.4 starting range, they are doing 'well' for a beginner/newbie to Korea.
