|
|
| Had my first acupuncture last week for my lower bad back of seven years. It's a lot better after just one go - unbelievable. The guy lifted up my shirt and stuck a few needles in. Then, stuck a few in the back of my legs - right thru my jeans! Didn't even have to take my trousers off - what was that! |

ah I thought it was a long-term thing, so did you just point to your back and say "appa!" (or whatever that word for 'painful' is)? Do you speak Korean? Did the doctor speak English?
I really want to try accupuncture, but apart from a shocking lack of hair haven't really got anything wrong with me. Sprained my ankle playing football once and am gutted I didn't try the pins out then. |

Perhaps the accupunturist sidelines as a taylor and was putting the trouser pins in to make later adjustments.
I always think of going to accupunture to give up smoking mut not sure if it would be effective or not. |

| if you smoke Silk Cut, they've already got the pinholes in, maybe that's the reason? |

James,
Afraid not am a Dunhill lights man. I believe the cigarette giving up treatment is a pin in the ear or something but am not certain. |

I spoke Korean. He spoke less than zero English = when he tried I had no idea what he was saying.
I studied shiatsu for a couple of years in the 80s but never tried needles. I became 'aware' that, while it seemed to work - sometimes, the theory behind it was a load of codswallop - it varied according to different teachers = if you can't explain it you have no idea what you are talking about. I gave it a shot last week as my wife went and found it helped her. Still think it is a bit quack though. For example, as an aside, he hooked me up to some machine by straping a couple ofterminals to my wrists. The results said I was depressed (nope), quite unhealthy (nope), he reckoned my heart missed a few beats - probably when I coughed (had a full medical recently including ECG and no problemo), and all other kinds of seemingly impossible-to-tell stuff. I think he was trying to solicit more work from me. I don't think they had those machines in Confucious's day. |

A couple of years ago, I broke my toe, and theres nothing western medicine can really do for that, but one of my students who's a regular M.D. suggested I try accupunctuture. He said it would help the muscles around the bones relax, and let them heal faster.
I tried and it seemed to help, though that being my only experience with a broken bone I can't be sure. |

If you're serious about quitting, forget accupuncture and check out Allen Carr's "The Easy Way to Quit Smoking".

Quit about 7 months ago and I haven't looked back. There was a thread on this book here at Dave's (how I found out about the book - Thanks Dutchman!), but it seems to have been deleted. Another buddy of mine quit about a month ago after reading the same book. What have you got to loose? 15,000 won?
Having said that, I've had accupuncture a number of times in Korea for a variety of reasons. I highly recommend it. Has worked for migraines, an old elbow injury that "acts up" from time to time, as well as when I threw my back out. I swear by accupuncture, but not for quitting smoking. Allen Carr's book does the trick there.

I'm going to read that book one day, when I decide to give up.
Smoking's brilliant though, so I don't think it'll be any time soon. |

Why don't you pick it up now? What have you got to lose? Do you really think a book can make you quit smoking if you're deadset against it?
