I wish it were true.

Perhaps, if you work at the_beaver's university for more than a year they'll give you one with no hassle at all.

Foreigners Experience Difficulties in Living in Korea
Overall living conditions, including education, housing, medical care, transportation, immigration, and access to the Internet are pointed to as inconveniences. Not only inconveniences caused by different systems and customs in Korea, but also special discriminating practices,... are ubiquitous. "Even though Korea has achieved some degree of globalization in going abroad, it has still a long way to go for globalization in embracing foreigners inward," said foreigners residing in Korea.

In response to you and Pyongshin, here's what happened to me.

Last year I got a hankering for a credit card so I went to the Samsung credit card place in ȫ. They said that I had to be in at least the second year of my contract. Now, I know a few people who have done without being their second year, but I guessed things had changed.

The next week Samsung credit card person was drumming up business in the office and I though maybe I could sneak in that way but she also said that I needed to be into a second contract. So, one of the secretaries had a great idea that I re-sign my contract early, send the copy to Samsung and I'd get a card -- that's what happened and I did.
