|
|
I've just done the Toeic test and corrected the answers. I got 193 out of 200 but I don't know how to calculate it. I guess the 193 is ok?
(Well I was preparing for classes, eating and reading Dave's ESL and doing the test all at the same time. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!! )
I got in Part 1 20/20
Part 2 29/30
Part 3 30/30
Part 4 19/20
Part 5 38/40
Part 6 19/20
Part 7 38/40
Total 193/200
So how do i calculate it? Has many people done the test? How did you get on? |

I took a practice TOEIC test...maybe the results are different, but the top TOEIC score is 990 (which I got). I don't know where you got your numbers...???
I DO know that Korean students who want to get a REALLY good job need a score in the 900s. Even to work at Samsung, they need at LEAST 700! |

That's a great score. The score of 193 that I gave before was the amount of correct questions that I had out of 200.
That's includes all the seven parts but I didn't know how to calculate the score (i.e. how to convert 193 to 990) but I was told that in the book itself (where I got the test from) there is a chart and basically you match up your score for the listening and reading part (495 points each) to a corresponding figure in the chart and the sum of them gives you the Toeic score.
I got 990 as well eventhough I didn't answer 200 right out of 200. This was because I could afford to get up to 10 questions wrong in the reading part and still have the top score of 495 from that section.
Where else could you get some questions wrong and still get the highest score? - Korea!!!
Having said that TOEFL is meant to be harder then Toeic because students need it to go to Universities in America so that would be interesting to take. |

Great score...I was just reading your follow-up post.
I was wondering how you came up with this sentence in your original post...

A few too many coffee or too much soju...
I thought you were an L2 student...in your follow-up post I realized you were a native speaker...*doh*
Just razzing you...I have lazy grammar and poor spelling sometimes too. For instance...

A few too many cups of coffee.
A few too many coffees.
a few too many coffee.
I guess since coffee is uncountable and sometimes in speech we neglect the units I might be off the hook. |

I'd like to test myself.
Where can I get my hands on one online? :)
Or is it hardcopy only?

One of my students had an "Ear of the TOEIC" book which I borrowed so I took the test and it was pretty interesting. The Koreans seem to be crazy about it so I really wanted to do it.
Having said that I did make a couple of mistakes earlier in the post (thank you turtlepi1 ). My spelling is generally atrocious (had to check the dictionary for that word!!) so I'm puzzled as to how I got so bad at English. Guess that I have to write here more often so that I can embarrass myself into studying!!! |

Not sure where you heard that. You can score lower than 700 and work there. Pych profiles are the big thing now.

Congrats Op.
Just a comment, i don't like TOEIC.
I met people with bad TOEIC scores who I can talk with all day and people with high TOEIC scores who i couldn't hold a conversation about the weather is.
A bad way to measure people. |

I know exactly what you mean. I'm sure that we all have students like that here. Many students cheat anyway.
I was told that they are going to add a "speaking" part into TOEIC soon but I'm not sure if this is true. |

| TOEIC is the worst English testing system out there. Theory might be okay but in practice students find themselves learning how to do an application for a credit card before they know what the word credit means. |
