Taxis anywhere can be unsafe. In thailand they might just take you out to a rice patty, murder you, and take your wallet. In Toronto, there was a problem with women being raped too by taxi drivers. It would seem in toronto part of the service cabbies provide is a ride where, if you're a female passenger, the cabby will try to hit on you for the duration of the ride.

There was a story a few months ago about a Korean cabby who was acquitted of rape by a Korean appeals court. The court found there wasn't evidence that basically the woman didn't want it. Some 19 year old female GI flew into Inchon. She grabbed cab. The 50ish driver took her to a motel and raped her. The court basically figured there wasn't enough evidence the woman wasn't some American slam hound who after 15 hours on a plane wasn't just dying to have some smelly old Korean cabby shoot her fuzz in a cheap motel.

rape does exist everywhere, but that doesn't make it right. i'm just saying you should be careful.

i can't beleive that the american gov't didn't make a bigger deal about the taxi driver who raped the GI though.
