With Diverse Flavors, Kimchi Finds New Appeal Among Foreigners
At first sight, Larisa Zanchuk, a student from Russia, may look like an ordinary Westerner who would prefer to have pizzas to kimchi, a Korean staple side dish of fermented vegetables and spices. But the 23-year-old has become almost addicted to kimchi after her one-year stay in Seoul, and eats the side dish with almost every meal these days.

it looks like it is part of the east, but I fought for four years in university trying to convince them of this and lost. Nevermind the fact that the vast majority of it hangs out in asia, its western, hell they didnt even consider it eastern europe. but then again they also think egypt isn't part of africa, go figure
and yes kimchi has flavors and no i only eat it at one or two meals a day |

| Call me out here, but every once in awhile I find some kimchi that has the taste of blueberries with a little hot pepper as an addition. I know it is only me, but it has happened more than a few times. |

| I'd like kimchi a lot more if they didn't make it with those little shellfish. The fishy taste totally ruins it for me ... |

Yes,
Not spicy, hardly spicy and a tiny bit spicy.
No seriously though there are a lot of different types of kimchi. |

Of course it has different flavours!
I love kaennip kimchee. An incredible flavor all its own. I like the fresh kind best, but the aged kind is good, too. I prefer old, sour kimchee to fresh. And I LOVE Jeolla kimchee. Seoul kimchee is boring and Busan kimchee is just plain gross.
Are these flavours going to appeal to a worldwide audience? |

Well, the reporter did say "may look like"....
It's been my experience that most Koreans adhere to the calculus of "white face = North American = eats 'bread' instead of rice, likes pizza and hamburgers/doesn't like kimchi".
Larisa should probably be grateful that it the reporter didn't write that she looked like a prostitute. |

I think this thread provides a rare insight into Real Reality's life. Sitting at home with a pizza as he ploughs through the days news events with greasy fingers:
"Westerners eat lots of kimchi? Kimchi has different flavours?! MORE LIES!!!!"
CUT!!!

| kimchi certainly has lots of flavours- not so much korean kimchee which is mostly reasonaby hot so it's hard to taste any subtle tastes but i found in japan they had heaps of more subtle flavours. russia certainly isn't western - they just look like westerners (almost). |
