| Just got back from Pagadian, Philippines and while I was in the local department store I heard a couple of little High School girls yell "Hey Joe". It happened again at the Bus Terminal only it was a group of policemen toting around their M-16's. On another occasion it was "Hey Dude". I got a kick out of it because it was like something out of a movie. |
I get a kick out of some of the teenage/university aged males when they get funky with me. "Hey dude!" "Peace out, man!"
(Casey, I was of course joking about the plague comparison... I take all these things as being very cute and charming.) |

well, I live next door to an elementary school and teach at another one. There's a foreigner in every school here, so the kids are pretty used us now, and I only really get th hello chorus from my own students.
When I first got here I got the "waygook saram!" thing a lot, including being chased a little in my neigborhood. Then I learned enough Korean to turn it into a game and chase them back shouting "Hankook saram!" |
