I tried the foreigner registration process and got an email from cyworld re my application, but I still can't login properly. I registered using my hotmail email account, and I'm trying to login using that address and my password.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong? do I have to wait a few days before I can log in?

let me warn you....DO NOT get a cyworld. soon enough every waking moment you have, in between powdering your nose and messaging on your cell phone, will be spent checking your cyworld and other peoples cyworlds. you will constantly be writing about such important things as the weather and warning your friends to bundle up because it is cold outside. you will complain of hunger and being bored and missing your friends. you will use these ^^ and these ~~~ and these . in gratuitous amounts. you will obsess because one of your friends visited another friends cyworld and not yours. you will spam all of your friends as much as possible just so they feel obligated to spam you back in order to have more hits than your enemies on a daily basis.

but, cyworld does provide unlimited storage for those oh so amazing camera phone pictures of you and your friends giving the peace sign while standing in front of any number of off the beaten path places and obscure landmarks in seoul. and don't forgot to post those bug-eyed Haduri pictures that look nothing like you.

As you can tell I'm not bitter at all about cyworld. It has merely stolen my gf from me, and informed me that while she is dating me and supposedly breaking away from the korean jello mold, in all truth she is still stuck way up in it. u think any pics of me are on that site? hell no! but...at least im provided for.Wink

Laughing Hahaha.... That was the funniest thing I've read about that in a while... While I doubt that many foreigners with 'em would obsess THAT much, this was a PERFECT depiction of every female coworker at my last hakwon, and a very understandable reason why that site's blocked on the server at my current office!

Really, it's like some of them had just gotten over their Tamagotchis or something, and this is the new replacement... Anyways, in the scheme of things, at least when they die they can say, "My cyworld page was getting 500 hits a day... Those were the glory days...."

Mine took about a week and a half to become active...and no letter of confirmation letting me know that it WAS active. If it's not active in another week or so, have a Korean friend (or do it yourself in English and hope for the best!) send them an e-mail about it.

FYI, if you want to buy "dotori" (I think that's the spelling!) you have to use a credit card and not your cellphone.

(And no, I'm not addicted...I only check my 10 or 15 times a day...and...um...gee...it's been an hour...time to check again.....) um...and am I REALLY happy with my minihompy? Maybe a skin.... Embarassed

Yeah, a Korean friend could hook you up, but I understand the desire to do these things yourself. I just got the email:

Խû ּż մϴ.

ȸ ȸ ̽ʴϴ.

 Ȯ ÷θ ȸԲ Ȯ 纻 ( ź, , , ܱε 纻 1)
[email protected] Ȥ ѽ(+82-2-421-1286) ֽø Ȯ Խθ 帮ڽϴ. (Խû Ͻ , 1 ̳ ü ּž մϴ.)

 ø, ̿ ȸ ̿ մϴ.
  ̿ cyworld.nate.com

My Korean sucks but I think they want me to email or fax them something. Not sure why it has to be this complicated.

I got the same email. I think they want to see a copy of your passport. That is what I sent them and my account was activated a few days later.

That's D-U-M-B.... I thought maybe they fuzzed around with the one I started about 6 months ago, but it's still sitting there, with it's lone underwear-clad avatar in an empty room.... Poor little guy.

Anyways, I'm sure this may be a dumb question, but are you guys doing EVERYTHING right? Like, the numbers and letters in the password, etc, etc? I guess everything would be OK if they sent you that email.

I wonder what made them get all ridiculous about a few foreigners joining a picture-sharing site? Passport copies? Maybe an immigration officer's their webmaster now.

Fight the power guys. Korea needs to see your cartoon likeness in as many credit-card purchased costumes as possible! Haha... just jokes. Mine might actually have stuff on it if it wasn't locked at my work.

I'm not sure how to help you with the application as a Korean friend of mine just set it up for me. You might want to try that... I got a few emails from Cyworld telling me to change to my real name to get the same benefits as other people and I wrote them back telling them over and over again that yes, ̺ is my real name and finally they relented.
I spend a number of hours using Cyworld every day...^^;
can you tell? ^________^
anyway...
when you do get it set up, let me know what your address is and I'll put it up on my page. I
