You guys are funny. You really don't give your argument much credence when you can't even decide how you believe us to be mispronouncing it. You can't even tell whether you're hearing 'aboot' or 'aboat'. I expect that your biggest problem is that you want us to say 'aboWt' and we don't.
By the way Joe, I'm not a flag waving Canadian. I'm far from it. The anti-American aspect of the Canadian identity has got me into some heated arguments - against it. To the point that I've lost friends over their silly nationalistic bents. But if you're going to have character and mannerism stereotypes, get them right, eh. Yes. That one's valid. And I don't drink Molson Canadian or Labatt's Blue. Both horsepiss but I do know a lot of Canadians that swear by them so I'm not bothered about the Molsons beer swilling stereotype. It's not that far off the mark. |

I stole mine from the CBC. A few years ago they were having a contest for making up new words and to kick it off, a few guests came in with some ideas of their own, or ones pulled from various literary sources.
I forget who it was that submitted the word but he coined "hyalucent" as a made-up word that would mean "increasing in brightness". I always thought that was cool.
In the old days when I was LPmudding, I always went by "Lysander" but wih the increase of the internet, everybody and their dog uses Shakespeare references so it started becoming impossible to find sites where that one hadn't already been taken. |
Your avatar was my first clue that you might be a CBC nerd like me. I miss it all -- Radio one and two, and especially wacky Canadian TV.... |

CBC's streaming audio is pretty good though. Do you still take it in over the net? |

When I lived amongst the Dogon tribal people of Mali (West-Africa), I came up with my name. It stems from the fact that as a 6'3'' white person who never tans, doesn't suffer from night-blindness, and is actually kind to animals-I had to be a demon. In faxt, as my hair is the same colour as all of their local cats (a reddish buff colour), I had to be a cat demon, hence Demonic-cat: Demonicat. Ps, none of this story is false. |

I realize that this is a semi dead thread but it made me happy reading it. There were a lot of handles that I was curious about. And I always enjoy people jumping in defense of their word pronunciation.
Anyway. My name has been one of my favorite handles, for about as long as I have been internet friendly. d503, is the main character in Zamyatin's We a distopian novel, who believes himself to be the square root of negative one. He is one of my favorite writers, and D503 is one of my favorite characters. It's also one of the few 4 letter handles that I can regularly get, I sometimes stick a 'we' on the end if its not available. I too though am a multi handle user and someday maybe I will introduce this board to my other handles.
Oh, and I too am a girl. |

I did quite often in my last apartment which was a one-room. The sad thing about having a study/computer room is that listening to the radio is not as attractive. But now that I'm thinking about it again, maybe I'll tune in. My favourite was weekend mornings, especially Vinyl Cafe. Ahhh, good old CBC. |

I spent alot of my early 20s bumming around India, especially in Puri, Orrissa state, home to the Jagganatha temple. Lord Jagganatha is an incarnation of Visnu and the little smiley faced dude on the Hare Krishna stickers that devotees give out in Western countries. As for the digits, I was born in 1972, but have always possessed a purile mind
Cheers

What does my Moniker mean?
Why did I pick it? I have absolutely no idea....it was the first quirky thing to cross my mind at the time, I guess... |
