I'm personally a fan of the JetAudio M3L.

20 gigs and 30+ hours of playback.

Nothing fancy, just playback and a couple of other features.

http://www.jetaudio.com I believe.

Just a rebranded Korean unit.

jae.

Looks like a very decent barebones player. iPod power users are going to slam it though, even though it is, at least, equivalent to the iPod in terms of built-in options. I don't know why iPod users are so committed to that product!

I have an IPOD 40Gig The Reason for the commitment, I believe, is directly related to the investment. If I spend a lot of money for something I am going to defend my purchase.

I'd never buy anything with a built in battery. You start off at 20 hours and then after a year your built in battery is getting an hour of juice. Worse, your juice runs out on the subway and you can't slap in a fresh AA battery to keep going.

I bought a 512 mb iriver that can run 12 hours on a single AA. It holds about 143 songs. You can also get a 1 gb iriver too for 350ish won at Technomart.

It's cool to carry around your entired MP3 collection on a 40 gig drive but I dunno. The battery and the eventual replacement cost made me take another look.

Ok check this out...I have a zarus pda with 2 expansion slots. I bought it in Youngsan 2 years ago.

It has 2 expansion slots good battery life, even now i get like 2-3 hours if i make sure that the back light is not set on highest settings.

I will buy a 2 gig cf card (replace the 256meg that i have now), and get a 1 gig sd card. it will not hold as much as a ipod but it can do alot more and synching to a pc is easy. I could even use a multicard reader to do the trick.

Also mp3 quality is very nice!
I must say though the newest zarus out the 6000L is very very nice. It has intergrated wireless. Mine i need to buy a wireless cf card..... Smile

forget the ipod mini - spend a little more and get an ipod. it's the most gig for your dollar. the new 60gig one has a colour screen and displays photos too... i got an old 10gig one and use it a lot for file transfers. i have about 2gig of music on it, but 8 gig of files - movies, flac-files... things i want to transfer between my mac at home and the windoze box at work

must agree with this.

question hoju: how long have you had your ipod and is the battery still functioning well?

had it nearly 2 years now. battery functions well still. i charge it every night - seldom flatten it. am told it is best not to flatten the batteries.

during the week it gets maximum 2-3 hours use a day. on weekends max 5 or 6/day. the charge life is a bit low - only six hours or so... more if yu don't use equalisation... (which i donlt coz i have dynamite sennheiser headphones)

i understand the newer models have longer charge life.

yu can buy external battery packs.

not any time soon

I"m not even interested in buying an mp3 player. I think I will stick to MDs for a while longer.
But I am interested in following this topic.
Personally I like ease of use and from what I hear the ipod has iriver beaten hands down.
I think the iPod looks better too.
