Just thinking to myself - WHAT is with this station? They have Koreans presenting the news/weather and talk show programmes in half-styled and overacted pseudo-American or British English, but they have only foreigners teaching us Korean for ten minutes a day...odd. Also, the news at 10pm each night splits up into a broadcast for international and domestic viewers. The first part is for both, the latter is for those of us who're in Korea and it focuses on local-ish news...my point to this is, if you're watching Arirang news in any part of the world anyway, wouldn't you want to know as much about Korea as possible?? I think the internationaly -section part should be for domestic viewers only, and the domestic news section for both. Again...odd. Any other complaints? I might send them any email if I can get some more ideas to moan about...

Yeah, the "Let's Speak Korean" show bites.
There is no way that a true beginner is going to be able to pick up anything from watching it.

And the weather section of the news sucks too. The lady always tells the temperature for Seoul, Daegu and Jeju, in that order, even though they are plainly written on the screen. She offers no insight.

I did get a kick out of how ridiculous the stone-faced male anchorman looked on Chu-sok wearing a purple hanbok. Almost looked like he belonged in a Loterria comercial.

Look Arirang is crap, all the more reason to learn Korean and watch KBS and for you Wisco Kid (channel 10 - Changwon news on there).

However, the movie show on there is OK.

Actually, I have to admit enjoying the contenders gameshow too.

I'm leaving Korea in 2 weeks, so there's no point in trying to learn Korean at this point. I'll be trying my best just to get it out of my head.
(mostly the TV commercials and the Ajumma who lives upstairs yelling at her dog).

The whole concept behind the Airirang is propaganda. They show only the most positive sides of Korea. Most of us on this board are not fooled by there attempts but people in other Asian countries usually are. My wife from the Philippines would occasionally watch Arirang back home and marvelled at how well they spoke English. But when she arrived in Korea the reality set in that most of the people here can't speak English beyond a 3 year old level. Most of the poeple on Arirang are people who went abroad for many years and then came back. In alot of cases because they couldn't land a job in the same field back in the States ect.. I find alot of the shows and newscast to be kind of corny. The only reason I would watch Arirang was because for the longest time it was the only English channel I could get until I moved to a bigger city.
