I disagree with GG- it would be a good idea, but not absolutely neccessary. It's not hard if you can read carefully, follow directions precisely, and have a bit of patience. Where you might need help is in selecting the right bits and getting decent prices from your local Korean e market.

There are LOTS of sites on the internet to explain (and show) you exactly what to do:

http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/

http://buildpc.net/contents.html

http://www.buildyourowncomputer.net/learntobuild.html

http://www.waterwheel.com/Build_A_PC/build_PC.htm

http://www.build-your-own-computer-tips.com/

http://www.pcnineoneone.com/howto.html

http://www.geek.com/htbc/glanbui.htm

That should get you started...

Yes...actually, anyone with some know-how really can't screw it up. The pieces fit together like an easy model, and they really only fit one way.

Some great links, Bulsajo....read through these, and there is nothing you won't be able to tackle.

noob question.

how difficult is it to put together a rig? i'm just worried if i start, there is a chance i will have components all over the floor and staring at it until it magically comes together.

It is possible to put it all together perfectly first time. It is also possible to kill all the components by accident.
Best to have someone else put it together for you, or with you (well, for you, but with you watching to see how it all goes together). Sometimes the instructions (written in Chinese and translated to English via Navaho by a blind monkey with a degree on a typewriter whose keys are mislabelled) are good enough that it is just a matter of time and careful reading. Sometimes the instructions are worse than that. Smile
On the other hand, if you want to learn to assemble a computer, it can be a great way to learn (that is the way I did it at first, back in the 90s)

After reading the above I realize I should have qualified my own advice- I think it all comes down to WHY you want to try building your own machine. If it's simply because you think you'll save money, you're probably better served buying an off the shelf system. If you've never looked inside a pc before you should follow Giant's and Muggie's advice. If you've already done things like added a video card, and/or hard drive, Ram, re-installed an o/s etc. and are ready for more, then go for it.
