How do you play this game? I've heard about it but can't find it on any google or Dave's searches. Thanks in advance!

That's the same as Catagories, or whatever it's called.

Give students 4 categories: "Animals, Food, Coutries, Things in a House", etc. and 3 Letters. They have to think of an answer with the corresponding letter and category. Example: Animal with the letter 'A' is 'alligator.'

the "stop the bus" part of the game is deals with the time limit. Example, after 10 minutes you should "Stop the bus!"

Students then check their answers. You can give points for if they guess the same answer or if students have different answers.

I might be wrong, but this is the way I've played Stop the Bus.

I had some elementary students several years ago who loved that game, so they told me how to play. We had to think of categories first: Animals, countries, cities, things in the home, things outside the home, verbs, adjectives, round things, people or jobs, famous people, food/drink, 4-letter words, words longer than 6 letters, words that end in the letter "x"..... whatever you can think of. Usually we used four categories. The students worked in teams. They would say "stop the bus" when they had words for all categories, using the letter you chose. Then if all the words were good they got a point. A certain number of points wins the game. It's pretty simple to play and some students, mainly between ages 9 and 14 I guess, might like it. I've even used it with adults and university students a few times to help kill 10 minutes or so. Of course you can make it more difficult with tougher categories or asking students to spell their words or use them in a sentence.

yes, i remember stop the bus as a card game. a little like "gin". If i remember rightly, you had to get a score of 31?? where as you pass the unwanted card over to the next person (you have three cards or maybe 4??), and then they get a choice of picking it up or choosing the next card from the pile, thus from choosing another one, making the card thrown out, null and void for ever! anywya, i think thats how it goes, but if not, someone please correct me.

this gives the rules for 31, as thats what i remeber being called "stop the bus" at home. bit long winded, but includes everything.

I know both games but didn't know either was called stop the bus....

One plays stop the bus by pushing a salarayman into oncoming traffic.





Don't try it with a grandma, unless you want to play 'wash the bus.'
