OK. So which Korean banks provide an "international" card?

nearly all of them. Woori, Chohung (if it still exists, it got bought out my last year in Korea), KB I am positive have them. Oh, nonghyup as well.

Thanks.

The "HANA" card did not work here (VN). The ATM would barely look at it. It isn't "international." If most banks provide int'l cards, why would they give you one that isn't? Do you have to specifically request a card that will work overseas?

Daegu Bank cards will not work either. It sounds like Kookmin, Woori and Chohung might be the exception rather then the rule as far as cards go.

I had an experience with almost getting stranded in Thailand because I didn't play it safe with my spending. Next time I will take more cash as well as my US debt card.

Yeah, that's kind of silly that they don't just do it automatically. I was fortunate enough that they actually asked me which one I wanted.

maybe they were just out of them when he opened up his account. That happened to me with Nonghyup. They apologized and told me to come back in a week or two- obviously not a very efficient operation.
