Even 100 years ago, 5'9 would've been exceptionally tall, never mind the average height when evolution was acting on humanity to select for height.

Maybe stronger was the wrong word, it was late at night and I chose to simplify things somewhat, but taller men were percieved as good providers- and still are. http://www.apa.org/monitor/julaug04/standing.html

uhh..yeah peppermint- sorry I edited my previous post. To anyone out there wondering what peppermint is responding to, I said that height wasn't necessarily a legitimate factor.
1) Our ancestors mostly evolved in forests, where the most successful hunters were short, light and agile- enabling them to move efficiently and silently through undergrowth. A 6footer crashing through the foliage, unable to climb trees easilly for fruit, and scaring off all prey by being more easilly visible, for one thing, would've been sidelined by a choosy female.
2) The strongest men in the world today (eg. weightlifters) are generally short and stocky. the body type is: compact, low centre of gravity. Record breaking weightlifters are usually around 5ft, and the most successful warrior at defeating competition, Mike tyson, was only 5'9.
3) Taller people generally have less dense and weaker bones, less co-ordination, etc. Think of the old maxim, "the taller they are, the harder they fall." Which survives a windstorm better- a tall lanky tree, or a shrub low to the ground?

No, what you actually saw was consentual relationships between Korean women and western men, and that makes your Kyopo blood boil.

I dunno. My friend was in Hongdae and there was a trio of army cheese schlongs busting curfew. They were hooting at some korean woman in a short skirt who was doing her level best to ignore them. That's pathetic on two levels. One, hooting. Two, it's 3 am. You're going home alone. Sorry but the white thing didn't score you an Edae hottie. And all you're left with is to harass women on the street.

Cedar- Once again, I don't condone psychotic harrasment of the type you describe.
Make me a hate figure if you will, but my tongue-in cheek post was a humorous look at how women boast about how much male attention they get.
Men do the same,btw.

But this thread was about harassment specifically -- not about getting male attention, so you can't blame some of us for finding your post INCREDIBLY offensive.

I'm GLAD that I still get hit on if I go to the bar without my husband or another male friend. I'll admit that, although it doesn't make me go to the bar often (about twice a year, max). I don't go compaining to my friends that I wore a low cut shirt and some guy tried to sneak a peak. There may be women who do complain about these things, but I don't know any -- and that is not what this thread is about.

The OP and the poll were dealing with harassment. No sane woman is going to complain that she caught a guy noticing her long legs while she was wearing a miniskirt -- but she WILL complain if said guy takes it any further, ie. making a sexual comment, trying to buy her for sex, or physically touching her.

Rapier, I value your opinion on some topics. You seem insightful, but not when it comes to anything related to the relationship between men and women. Whether it was because of a family member, or a series of bad relationships -- you seem to be very screwed up about women and you should consider getting counselling in my (not that humble) opinion.

I learned some incredibly disturbing information on the weekend.

I was out with a Korean girl fully fluent in English. Her phone rang in the middle of dinner. After talking for a while she hung up and kind of rolled her eyes. I asked her who it was and she told me it was her Senior from University. After gently prying for information (because of her obvious contempt for the guy) she told me that upon entering university as a freshman, a senior guy, whose job it is to facilitate "campus orientation" will take them out to get drunk and then take full advantage of them. It's as common as buying text books at the start of the semester.

I asked her if it happens to all girls and she replied "well, except ugly or fat ones." I of course asked her if it happened to her and she got embarrased and just said "as a freshman girl you cannot reject them."

Daaaamn...I felt like I was gonna be sick after hearing this.

Been here 2 years and still feel floored whenever I take a quick peak under the curtain.

just because you can write it in korean, doesn't make your reasoning any more valid. what kind of bleeping chip do you have about kyopos? and this solid experience you'll talking about. i'm assuming its gonna number in the thousands, otherwise how can you justify your gross generalizations.

How can you justify the gross generalizations Kyopo make about their 'fellow Americans' (or Australians, Canadians etc)? Anyway, I dont have any 'chip' about Kyopo, although many Kyopo have something called the 'Kyopo chip'. All foreigners should learn Korean as a self defense measure vis-a-vis Kyopo.

That being said, of course im talking about a social phenomenon, not a hard and fast rule that applies to all Kyopo. That goes without saying. I myself err on the better side of caution when dealing with Kyopo. When talking about someone that had trouble with a Kyopo co-worker, a friend of mine living in Korea said 'anyone that would willingly work with a Kyopo is a bloody idiot!'. Could the way some people feel about Kyopo be the result of Kyopo behavior?

Uh-oh, that story has just caused my mood to slip down a notch (Sparkx, your story).

Hmm...must think about pleasant things now...oh, no I can't. I'm translating a document about an alleged sexual assault that's due tomorrow. Sad

So, a recap:

Guys are neanderthals, so they have an excuse to harrass women.
Women who are attractive, are asking for it.
Kyopos are to be hated.

And all men have an excuse for their bad behaviour.

Well said, especially the last line. "When you harass a woman, I find that utterly contemptible. But when I harass my hot Korean coworkers, it's not harassment for this reason..."
