I was listening to American Idiot today and it got me thinking about that wonderful ditty by that Korean fellow lambasting the US for all sorts of crimes- imaginary and real.
It reminded me of a conversation I had a while back about how sensitive Koreans are to any slight or insult to their race/nation/culture/history etc. The actual conversation was about the whole Jay Leno bit about Koreans eating dogs. During the discussion I said that Americans are just as good at making fun of themselves as they are of other peoples. Actually they are better at it (think South Park, the Simpsons etc.). And that when other countries try to have a go at the US, they often end up looking more idiotic themselves (now we come back to the good ole' 'F-ing USA' song versus the American Idiot song by Green Day).
Long story short- people around the world don't need to bother lampooning the US, because they do a better job of it themselves.
Leave it to the professionals.
Here're the lyrics, in case you don't know them already:

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information nation of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.

its true Americans have no problem mocking themselves, or at least their rednecked kin. However, they are just as touchy if some other country mocks them.

I think Americans have a very strong mentality of: It's okay if I call my sister a fat cow, but I will kick you if you do.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Anyone and everyone is allowed to poke fun at Americans, because the mass majority of Americans already do it (seen throughout our academia, pop culture, rock music, hollywood movies, film makers, comedians, etc.) American culture is ripe with it.

Woe to anyone who makes fun of any other culture or nation though. There will be hell to pay for it.

That's true of most of the world not just the States.

The Green Day song is okay and it deals with a theme not uncommon since Marshall McLuhan.

The "Fucking USA" song is a fine example of what happens when you ram your finger too far up your nose when it's still contaminated from having been up your ass.
