I have a quick question...

Is it possible to be detained at immigration, upon entry, due to a previous "run". The situation is this, my GF left a fairly horrible job in August of this year, yet avoided all the formalities of, well, telling her boss. Anyhow, I would very much like for her to come and visit me for a few months... Do you see this being a problem? She has a 5-year tourist visa and is American (in case that matters).
I have read grumblings about an "entry blacklist". Is this an esl urban myth?
Do any of you know of people who have "run" and not been allowed back in the country?

Thanks for any and all who reply.

How the *beep* did she get that???? Or is she a GI's daughter? If she was teaching on that tourist visa, then there will be no record of this at Immigration and can enter freely.

yeah, how did she get a 5-year visa????

regarding the blacklists...
unless she did something unlawful or threatening towards her employer, he wouldn't have had grounds to bar her from returning.

usually, the school director has to prove his 'reasoning' with immigration to prohibit entrance to a foreigner.

if, in your gf's opinion, the director is capable of concocting some horror story about her, and going out of his way to have her barred, then it is possible she could be turned away with a tourist visa.

why not check with the korean consulate or embassy in your neck of the woods?
inquire about getting a tourist visa, and see what they say.

or, she could just come...and if she is barred, she could just meet you over in fukuoka, japan. you will have a much better time there anyway. Wink

:

A tourist visa is good for 5 years but it does not mean one can stay here for 5 years straight.

If she got the tourist visa after she returned then she should be ok because she was approved for the visa.
