|
|
I have started to jog a lot recently now that I have tonnes of free time on my hands here in Korea. I am now able to run for 70 minutes (pretty darn good in my opinion). But, I should mention that I am a pretty slow runner, probably a 10 minute mile. I am happy with my endearence, but I am wondering how I can take my fitness level to the next level. Any tips? |

You can always just try running faster and for a shorter time... then work your way back up to 70 minutes. Maybe obvious but I don't think of obvious things all the time.
It might not sound cool but if you don't stretch alot already, do so... all kinds of stretches. Keeps you limber, it's helped me with injury prevention alot.
You could always work on making your stride more efficient.
Varying your pace... sprints then walking... sprints then walking...
There's always jumping rope, it's better for you than it might sound. And you can watch TV when you do it too, if you have a big porch or a big room in your apt. Quick hands, quick feet! If Mike Tyson has devoted his life to it as a means to an end, it must be great! |

Improving your endurance is pretty simple to do. You could increase your pace for certain intervals. Run harder for 2 mins and then take it easy for 4 mins and then back hard for 1 mins and easy for 2 mins and then back hard for 2 mins. You could do hill workouts or finish your workout by going up a slow incline. I wouldn't suggest going into a full out sprint. Especially at this time of year, since most sprinting injuries occur in wet, damp weather.
Like one poster stated, stretching is key. It's not that important for endurance, but it's key for injury prevention.
There are other things you can do, but I would stick to the above methods first. |

Enter races and train with a watch/timer.
Broaden yr horisons; think cycling and weights, in addition to the jogging. Get mags and get running mates. |

Vary your routines.
Interchange long slow runs with shorter and faster efforts.
Run hills and stairs for fast-twitch muscle development.
Train with weights (don't run with ankle weights, just do leg strengthening exercises.)
Run with others, they can keep your pace up. If you can get a bigger group, do "indian runs." Run in a single file line. Person in the back sprints to the front. Repeat. Excellent for explosion and pacing. |
