OK maybe this belongs in the Q&A section but I am more interested in the discussion than a direct answer...

If you could have a job at one of the "better" Korean universities (plus the perks that go with Korean jobs)

OR you could have a job at one of the better paying United Arab Emirate universities...with pretty much the same perks as Korea, free housing, same vacation that haggies drool over here and a pay much higher than than in Korea..(though the hours are likely a little longer...)

I guess culture comes down to being a big determining factor...

Just looking for some thoughts on what some of you might choose...

(Just hypothetical at this point...)

Hmm, K-girls or UAE girls, hmm, this one is a no brainer (for those of us with two brains).

I was in Dubai on business a few months ago. It's an incredible city with a banging nightlife. As multicultural as any western city i've been to...

I'd live there in a heartbeat

HOT? presumably because of wearing a Bhurkka in the midday 40 degree desert heat.
Do they go out with foreigners? Put out? Or are they too afraid of having their hands chopped off or being stoned to death?
Stay in Korea....

This is a bit wierd.

If my girlfriend studies in Canada for a year next year I'm looking at Dubai for a year as well.

I really don't want to live in Canada for a year, but if she isn't here I might try something different.

Here i come hot sands.

Mankind has some great first-hand knowledge of Dubai. I am a bit interested in it too because of it.

If there was anywhere in the MIddle East that I would work.. it would be without a doubt, Dubai.. closedly followed by Bahrain.

that's what i wanna know. if they do, i'd go. if it's some uptight conservative muslim nation, i'd rather just visit for a month and chew some qat. korea's conservative enough as it is. don't think i can handle more of this.

Dubai would be worth it to teach in....it's a great city

plus, when you get your residency permit it should allow you to be able to enter the neighboring countries much easier

Rolling Eyes

Why speculate?

Dubai is like living in New York. If you're bored it's your own fault (or you're broke).

The money is not good for a lot of teachers. Dubai is such a great place to live that salaries have dropped huge. I knew people only making like 1.5 million (won). Good jobs though pay enough.
Single you need 90,000 dhr a year to be ok
Married 120,000
If you make less don't go, you'll save nothing and spend it all. It's a fun place.

Tourists. Yes there are some but who cares? The best part is the expat community. It's so deep. There is so much stuff to do with them. Tons of clubs and organizations. Most people you meet have been there for years and are staying. So friendships can last. Lots of families.

Locals don't speak a lot of English, but you never talk to them so who cares?

It is cheaper than Korea and more fun socially. The down side is that if you can't handle working for Koreans with all their bullshit, you have no chance there, it's a 100 times worse.

No worries for you Rapier. Rudeness and ignorance are not considered attractive in any country.
