from : http://blinger.org/

Today I had my second car accident in exactly one month. Both times I got hit by taxi's - if you live in Korea, you will know that this is not surprising as taxi drivers here are notoriously aggressive with poor driving habits - red lights are suggestions and pedestrians are generally considered to be obstructions to the flow of traffic.

Anyhow I was on my way to the final staff meeting for the semester: a buffet at a hotel near my school when I was stopped at a red light, looked in the rear-view mirror and saw the taxi speeding towards me. I knew he was going to hit me and of course tensed up. This is probably not the best thing to do and most likely resulted in a worse case of whiplash than I normally would have.

Unfortunately for this taxi driver he decided to ram into me directly opposite a police station with a riot bus filled with police to witness it. LOL Everything was going fine and we moved the cars into the police parking lot. Here is where things got interesting.

The taxi driver was writing information down for the cops and I was waiting next to his car. He decided to get something out of his car and walked towards me, but since I was in a pissy mood I didn't move. What does he do, he yells at me in Korean ! mother fucker. I immediately grabbed him by his jacket, lifted him up and threw him down on the hood of his car while yelling at him ! What kind of fucker, ! mother fucker, ѱ! Korean fucker. It seemed to me for about 30 or 40 seconds, but was probably only about 10 or 15 seconds. The taxi drivers eyes were really bugged out and I can guarantee that he won't be swearing at anymore foriegners.

Now this is not exactly the smartest thing for me to do in a foreign country, at a police station. But what was really surprising is that the cops didn't really care. They just watched me and when I finished yelling at him, made sure I wasn't going to punch him or anything like that. I may be dumb, but I'm not stupid!

edit: This did not happen to me, but to the author of http://blinger.org/

that sucks, but at least you made it count!
how easy / difficult was to get the taxi company to pay for the damages in your first accident?
did it end up costing YOU much?

I like how the dude who got hit all had to point out that the taxi driver was Korean as part of his insult. Bloody brilliant. Confused

Otherwise, taxi dork got what he deserved. I don't hate every taxi driver, but 99% will suffice.

I've had my share of "run ins" with korean drivers and it's ALWAYS been the other driver's fault. I was at a few red lights and got rear ended.
Drivers always start yelling....I just tell them to "shut up ajuma or ajuma be quiet!" "Who you call ajuma they answer...you...you ajuma, now be quite! Even though they are males.

I'm honestly surprised that I haven't seen more traffic accidents. I did see two Korean guys get out of their cars and duke it out (this was when I was on a bus).

I agree with the op about pedistrians being just "obstructions" I have started hitting people's cars if the block the cross walk. I came damn close to getting hit in a cross walk near my house. Honestly, I'm thinking of caring things the throw at the cars that do this. Maybe just a rubber ball. God, something to wake these people up.

I don't drive in Korea. You couldn't pay me enough money to drive in Korea. People are too fricken crazy.

I know a fellow who is "accident prone" and gets hit by cars/taxis. Not seriously hurt....his feet get run over quite a bit and his hands/arms get bruised up. He is just unlucky I suppose.....
but...he does get paid! Drivers always want to settle out of court and the cops encourage private settlements. He always seems to get hit walking in the crosswalks when the cars should be waiting for the light to turn green but don't. He has been compensated 92 million Won so far this year.
He gets between 6-10 million per accident. Fraud?
He's in the crosswalk and the walk light is green! Most of the drivers beg him to not report the accident! I saw with my own eyes (and no I was not a witness or backed his play)...two accidents he had and one driver paid him 4.6 million Won within an hour.
