I bought a 512 mb iRiver mp3 player at Technomart. The iRiver store at Coex had it listed for 319,000 won. I got it at Technomart for 279,000. You'd think i got a bit of a deal but if you check the American Best Buy store site it was on for $199. Based on exchange and sales tax you might pay buying it in person in the states, that's about 230,000.
Can you say dumping?
Anyone else found this? Korean electronics that are cheaper to buy at home than locally? |

yup.
Depends on what you buy. Some things are cheaper while others are more expensive. Exchange rates are a factor too. |

| IRiver is from Korea. It's a Korean brand. Not sure if they make anything other than MP3 players. |

I was under the impression iRiver was the company that made the hardware for the first line of Rio mp3 players. Rio is an American based company. Eventually iRiver decided it wanted to market their wares directly to the consumer.
But I could be wrong. |

Last year you had to pay 350,000 to 400,000 for a combo VCR/DVD Player in Korea.
The exact same player cost about half that in the USA.
Local customers are gouged. Imports are taxed heavily here, and the local companies follow suit. |
