Hey all.

Booking home for a bit soon come end of this gig. Got to tie up some loose ends, get things organized, look into future possibilities, yadayadayada...

When I come back, I will be looking into either another year of Public School, or an Uni gig. Now I see there are mad hirings right now, due to the start of a new year, but I am curious as to how big the second semester hiring season is, and when would be the best time to fly back for interviews/applications?

Any answers here would be much appreciated. If there really aren't that many jobs, I may be forced to find some sort of work at home and lay low till the start of next year (rather not). So if anyone could tell me, just based on past experience, what to expect from second term hiring, I would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks alot

CC

Insofar as I could tell, there just weren't many Public School hirings at the midway point... not sure if there were any. That could change, but I doubt you'll see much.

They seem to hire now for March 1 start.

Ya, I know. I just finished a year of Public. But I gots me some stuff to do-which means I won't be returning in time for Term #1.

Let's make it easier. Hey all you Uni profs! NOT COUNTING right now, when is the best time to come back for interviews for a second semester gig? Is there such a thing?

Public School Teachs that started second term (Gepik seems to come to mind): How did you find intergrating yourself halfway into the year?

It seems there are two hiring sessions this time of year (in general). The first is the real hire and that happens late november and early december. But many of the candidates have applied at many of the schools and so even though they get the job offers, they don't always take them, opting for something better. This leaves school scrambling in early february. Early february is when the second more desperate hiring session begins. It is usually easier to get a job with fewer qualifications at that time due to the crunch.

I'm not a prof, but here's my two cents.

Schools hire at different times. My university interviews about 3 or 4 months before the beginning of the semester, so for an end of August start they'd interview in May. Because teachers sometimes pull out of a contract or decide to leave before the semester starts occasionally it's possible to get an interview closer to the start date.

My uni only hires in October or November to start in March. Teachers that leave in the summer are not replaced. Others are given overtime hours.

I'm in Taiwan now and I want to come to Korea in Feb, what can I do to find a public school or University gig?

Also, are placement agents safe to use in Korea, or am I just asking for trouble?
