| I just sat in the waiting room for 50 minutes of my one hour lesson with the company CEO where I also teach other employees beforehand... the secretary came in at 5:20 (Lesson started at 4:30) and said, he's in an important meeting and has to cancel. I did have a job that I could have done during this time had I not sat there for 50 minutes. At the end of my month, I calculate how many lessons I've had and they pay me directly to my bank account, 50,000 per lesson. Is it fair to count this lesson in the total times taught at the end of the month? |

You were called to a meeting with the CEO. The meeting was scheduled during your class time. You are paid by class. The CEO should have known that before the meeting was scheduled. His mistake, not yours.
Bottom line: you should get paid for it.

| I just talked to him and he had to cancel today too. But I'm not there, so I won't charge him...but he wants to make up the time by doing 1.5 hr lessons on both Wednesday and Thursday. So do I charge him 75,000 for Wednesday and Thursday at the end of the month along with the 50,000 yesterday? Or do you think he's thinking that this would take the place of yesterday (or today?) Ha, confused... |

Easy decision. I wouldn't go the hardcore way and demand to get paid for everything. But, expaling to him that your day is busy.
If they call you before you are out of the house the class can be cancelled without pay. If you are in transit or in the building then the time has to be paid for. |

Yes, definately charge him for yesterday. He pays you for your teaching, but first and foremost he pays you for your time. You were there for the appointed time, so you should be paid.
As for today you're right not to charge him because he cancelled in advanced, so he didn't take up your time. And if you get paid 50,000 an hour, then 75,000 for 1.5 hours is of course what he should expect to pay for Wednesday and Thursday. And it's ok if he thinks that it should make up for today because he's not paying for today, so it's normal for him to have to pay extra for the extra half hour. However, it is possible that he may think it makes up for yesterday. Just so that there is no confusion, you might want to remind his secretary or whoever pays you that you are charging him for yesterday, but I wouldn't bother bringing it up to him. |

When I did privates I charge a month in advance.
If there is a cancellation and they have given me at least 48 hours notice and I credit it towards next months lessons. I am quite clear that if I show up for a class and they aren't there they have to pay me for my time and trouble. If they cancel on short notice thats too bad too because I arranged my schedule to be there. If they dont like it, I dont teach them. Plenty of other fish in the sea. |
