Some additional things in the supermarkets would be nice indeed.
McNasty...instead of miming...how about learning a few pratical Korean words and the simple sentence that means "Do you have it - Do you have any?".
That would greatly simplify things.
If that fails, make your self some nice colorful flashcards and show them to the market attendant. |

I got a little peeved with my mother last time I went home, because she'd gone grocery shopping the day before and deprived me of the whole shell shocked shopper thing- then again, I went home for Christmas last year and ended up wandering through on Christmas Eve. .
My family stopped teasing me about it when I made a pretty elaborate breakfast Christmas morning though. |

| a real grocery store would be nice but a real drug store would be even better....always hit the Watson's or Boots when elsewhere to stock up on sundries and toiletries...what the hell is with the drug stores, (chemists to the cousins) here??? Third World conditions...Russia was better off 10 years ago |

I don't understand. You "wandered through" what on Christmas Eve that embarrassed you and that your family teased you about? A supermarket? I'm missing something...
Anyway, does anyone ever wonder/worry about turning into a blimp when they move back to the West after years living in the East? I've started to. Until a few years ago, I was naturally skinny. Ate whatever I wanted, as much as I wanted, whenever I wanted. My diet could hardly be called balanced, but I didn't care and I felt great. Korean friends said: "Hey, why don't you eat a hamburger -- you look sick!"
Now it's not as simple. I think if I moved back to the West, with its massive supermarkets, low prices, endless bread aisles, countless salad dressings.... and I could buy every ingredient to make whatever I wanted... well, I think I'd supersize myself in no time. |

| They teased me because I was shellshocked by the variety at the supermarket ( went to the best stocked one in town) and came back with enough groceries for a small army. |

A better pharmacy would be cool indeed.
As for supermarkets....strangely enough I don't miss them all that much anymore. I do quite well with the supermarket in my area and with the huge open air market there. In fact, I have come to prefer the open air market....strange. |

| Sorry I was christmas shopping today, so i was in and out of stores and I realized something. I miss blending in at a supermarket or any store. I am used to it on the streets and have gotten adept at dodging children who have frozen directly in front of me. I am a shopper who likes to wander and likes to wander sans interuption, here though there are always a couple of sales folk trailing around after me, and I always feel hassled when I leave. Where are the rude clerks who ignore you for hours on end... |
