My hagwon owners were going to try to deduct the 800,000 won fee they paid to the recruiter from my last paycheck because I didn't finish my contract. (I stuck it out for 4 1/2 months, and I gave them over 1 month's notice ).

I finally talked them out of it but they were trying to make me feel like they were doing me a favor and doing a good cop/bad cop routine. As it was they are duducting the money they paid for the visa run and the flight over here, which is understandable but they didn't tell me about it until the day before payday.

Oh, I am so sick of this country and all the crap one has to deal with. I'm just glad to be leaving with a tinge of sanity left.

So it turned out alright then? If they turn around and deduct that money then go straight to the labor board.

Cheers

you can go to the labor board over this.

Legally they cant deduct anything other than taxes, pension and health.

You are bothered that they would want some expenses covered after you break your contract. They should have gone after the airfare.

Do you feel any compunction at flying home after only four months on a ticket they paid for according to a one-year contract you signed?

well do they feel any conpunction about overwork, constant lies, unreasonable demands and illegal activities?

VanIslander do you feel any need to read a post before you attack?

Methinks you read the post a little too quickly also Wink

Having said that I sort of felt like them wanting the recruiting fee back wasn't that unreasonable either. Maybe under the law they can't get back and if that is the case then of course he shouldn't have to pay it but I don't think them WANTING it was unreasonable...

but yes...if you are going to run a business...know the law.

While you're on that subject, Grotto, I was wondering why you chose to cite me as saying this quote when I wasn't the one who said it? It was Pligganease, but you chose to type my name above the quote? Why? By the way, you spelled my name wrong. I wanted to point this out a few days ago, but the board wouldn't record my posts.

Do you read posts?

Here's the link and the misquote:

I also find it very humorous that they love to bash the U.S. military so much. I find it interesting that anyone in Korea teaching should be thanking every G.I. they see for the simple fact that they would not be able to have their easy job if American soldiers weren't protecting the peninsula for them... How many American soldiers died just to give them a place to come? Any foreign teachers in Pyongyang? Doubt it...

This is one of the things that doesnt endear Americans to their 'brothers to the North'. On the flip side maybe every American GI should be thanking every Canadian, English, French, Turk, Greek, Pole etc from the United Nations that gave their lives during the bloody conflict known as the Korean War.

As for military bashing it is usually done because its an easy target. They are involved in controversial actions that many people dont agree with. What alot of people forget is that the military is just following the orders of the American government(as they should, its their job!).

I am far from innocent in regards to bashing the American military. When they bombed the Canadians in Afghanistan I was plenty pissed off! What annoyed me even more was the apathetic response from my American co-workers. They couldnt bear to hear anything negative about thier armed forces. Some of their comments were 'well the Canadians were in the wrong place' Well they should have told the pilot who they were' 'You guys should stay back from the real fighting if you cant handle it!'

Now do I hate all Americans because of the actions of one pilot and 4 American teachers? No I hate 1 pilot and 4 pain in the ass teachers! Nationality doesnt have anything to do with it!

Pay back the recruiter fee!!! Yeah right!!! Why? so the bad employer can pull another scam...he's going to get the fee back from the recruiter anyways and just wants to double up on it.

You aren't responsible for the recruiter fee.

Airfare, probably.

The first job I ever got here was through a recruiter. They actually said to me when I arrived, "If you want to leave make sure you at least stay three months otherwise we must refund the recruitment fee". It's possibly similar across the board. The school missed out on their refund by a month. Haha serves them right. They'll learn. Twisted Evil
