The other day while in Jeju, I saw a guy riding a motorcycle with the kitchen sink strapped to it! This was not your run of the mill home type sink but a honest to goodness restaurant type sink! It was about 7 feet long with two tubs! The metal type sinks used in restaurants! Now I've seen it all! I've also seen a family of 6 riding on a motorcycle, dad, mom and 4 kids!
And while touring Jeju university, the students hung a banner between two trees, about 20 feet long, 3 feet wide and written on it in big letters is: KOREAN CULTURE, MADE IN JAPAN!
Who can top that?!

On one of our weekend trips to Seoul we ended up in Hollywood Basement. While waiting in the bathroom for a free toilet, another girl came in. She hitched up her skirt, pulled down her pants and pissed on the floor (also getting a good bit on her shoes!). Shocked All she had to say for herself was 'I'm sorry, I'm Mongolian'!!! I'm sure there have been plenty others but I just can't remember them. I think this is the only one that left me speechless!

I hope this counts. Just finished watching the news and my jaw dropped. Some employee from Shin hyup bank was delivering some of the bank money in his car and was robbed in broad daylight. Two thieved zoomed up in their motorbike, opened the back door and lifted the case of cash. At the cop shop the embarassed employee said, "I thought the back door was locked." Hey bank, how about paying professionals to transfer the cash - like an armoured car company perhaps?

To continue on the scooter stories... I saw a guy in Changwon one time riding his scooter through a 4 lane intersection, steering the scooter with his feet and his hands behind his head in recline. Needless to say, he wasn't wearing a helmet either.

people with pet monkeys in public.
down at dongdaemun street/fleamarket a guy wearing a sleeveless, summery one-piece dress. it had a nice, summery pattern and went down to mid-thigh. he looked comfortable in it; it was a hot day. and he had big arms, and the dirty hands of a mechanic. and beside him walked (waddled) a large monkey. the monkey was not one of those little spider monkey type monkeys. it was more like a kind of baboon. with a big bright-red jowly face, and a bright blue mask with black stripes around his eyes. its hair had some white in it. altogether it was less than three feet tall. it had a collar and a chain leash. its ass was bright red and gross looking, like a lot of baboons seem to have a sort of weird assed mating display thing going on back there(!). it rode on the back of his motorcycle when they left the market.
funny, aint it? it's like the guy in the dress is giving us all something else to stare at. folks get more stuck on staring at the monkey!

Last weekend was the faculty BBQ at my uni. The loaded us on the bus to go to the uni resort on the coast. First, the boss directed the driver to put in a tape of that goofy "Bird Dance" music at max volume. My kids started crying so they stopped it.

We got to the resort and it was indeed a very nice place. Tons of great food, lots of beer and boat rides. After the Koreans got into their second soju wind, out came the karaoke machine.

Paradise was lost as the thing blasted out screeching drunk voices at 100 db. We could not shout over it. The waygooks asked several times to have it turned down to no effect.

We then got our stuff together, walked to the road and caught the bus back to town. Apparently the Koreans were quite miffed.

Yeah, if we think that Korean bathroom culture is bad, from what I have heard from teachers who have worked in China, Korean bathroom culture really isn't so bad. I don't know about the Mongolians, but it sure sounds like a lot of stories I heard about bathrooms in China.

As these days roll around, there isn't to much that I don't flinch at anymore. Like the other day, was out with some profs having lunch, they ordered Bi-bim-bap, but this bi-bim-bap came with raw cows flesh. Just mix it up and ate it, though it didn't really taste that good. New wierd experiences are losing the edge here in Korea.

Yesterday I saw a korean guy taking his macho rotweiler type- dog out for a "walk". It was more like circuit training. He was sat on a scooter, his dog was tethered to the back , and tied to the poor dogs collar was a tyre. The poor dog was panting overtime while being dragged along. How nuts...

Am dying to know.... how tall was she? If she was really, really short, I know who that is. And I would definately believe your story! This same gal used to pal around with me in Itaewon. One night she got piss drunk and became angry at me when I told the bartender not to serve her anymore. She walked out in the middle of the street at 5am and sat there... right in the middle of the street. Taxis were flying by and honking... what a mess!
