It's 8 in the A.M. I'm dragging my ass to the office like I do every morning, in a total Zombified state. I'm minding my own business, surreptitiously adjusting my colossal Morning Sequoia and singing the "Milkshake" song, when suddenly I hear the annoying pitter-patter of running shoes some distance behind me. There are few things in the world more annoying than shoes that make a goddam pitter-patter sound. Lip smacking and Kobe Bryant come to mind, but they don't even rate compared to the sound crap shoes produce. There are only 3 acceptable sounds which may emanate from shoes. The uber-intense, face-stomping THUD-THUD of work boots, the head-turning CLICKITY-CLACK of stilleto heels, and the nearly silent SWISH-SWISH of those camel-toed ninja assassin thingies that you hear right before your head is lopped off (I've heard it 4 or 5 times and lived to tell about it. I win).

Anyway, so there I am dragging ass, and I hear that annoying sound rushing up behind me, and I'm thinking "It's gotta be one of three people": a North Korean spy, my mother, or an ex-girlfriend with a pair of scissors in her hand. Either way, I'm f**ked. I dare not even turn around to look. Suddenly I am brushed aside like so much flotsam. At first I am relieved to see that it was merely an office girl rushing to get to work on time, and not in fact someone hell-bent on crushing my mojo.

Then, the needle on my patience meter breaks the goddam scale.

Where in the hell is she going so quickly?? She's a goddam secretary. The most important thing she's going to do all day is give her boss a BJ. WTF??

If this didn't happen EVERY SINGLE DAY I wouldn't even give a rat's ass. Normally I assuage my anger at this situation by sticking a wad of chewed gum on the subway tollgate card reader as I'm passing through, but the novelty of that gag is starting to wear thin.

The next time some hussy runs up behind me with her cheap-ass clickity-clack shoes I'm gonna do something drastic. You know, like, move outta the way, or something. You can't harsh a hot chick. I lose.

Yeah, a couple of them!

One about the trot.. whats with the Korean girls getting into that 10-second trot all the time with the high heels? Normal walking then launch into a trot? Followed by a return to normal walk. Laughing

The other about living in Shinchon and hearing the girls in high heels all the time.. which constantly drove me to my window!

You can only hear about 10 maximum click-clacketing high heels go by.. and they just drive you to getting out and drinking to be among them!

Tomorrow as she passes you, you should lift your leg and fart extremely loudly.

$20 for a big feed of Sam gyup sal
$3 for a bag of kimchi
The look as you release the after effects in her general direction.

Priceless.

Worst place for pointless (and semi-hazardous) running:

Shindorim Station.

A junction of the two busiest lines, coming from two of the busiest feeder cities (Incheon/Suwon), and a whole bunch of people that think dashing through a busy-ass subway station is gonna get them to work on time.

I live by Shindorim, so I see this every morning. It's worse than most other busy stations, cuz the exit points for all the platforms basically all meet in one big clearing, which I have dubbed "The Killbox"... I gotta admit that I derive a tiny bit of pleasure when I see two sprinters bodycheck each other; usually I can see it coming from a mile away. Somehow, the absolute necessity of catching that next 2ȣ train (despite the fact they come every two minutes) blinds people of their peripheral vision.

Not to say that running isn't necessary sometimes, but in Shindorim Station it is completely superfluous. (The bodychecks are still awesome, though).

They're running away from US, 99.736% of the time. When they do this, I inevitably catch up to them anyway (on the subway platform, for instance). When I catch up to them I usually tear off their shirts and/or skirts with malice, thus confirming their worst fears. My wife hates it when I do this (to other women), but the point simply MUST BE MADE.
