That's only mostly true, not completely true. Smile Sometimes, even if you have a great job, you just decide you have to move on to something else.

I think it has more to do with the fact that he lived in Thailand for two and half years before coming here....

Geez, I would never want to live in Thailand. Pay is crap, too man hassles from the locals, etc. The food isnt all that great either. Its a nice place to visit for 2 weeks and then to get the hell out of.

blasphemy! How dare you disparage Thailand. Sure the pay is crap but the cost of living is so low you dont need much money.

I spent 3 weeks there on under 1000$ US and lived like a king.

The food isnt that good? Shocked Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

I loved it...lost 12 lbs in the three weeks I was there and I ate tons.

I figure one more year in Korea after this one and then off to Thailand debt free with about 20,000$ US in my pocket which will more than set me up. Get some cushy gig where I only have to put in 12 hours a week and the rest of that time will be spent swimming, fishing and Wink Very Happy

Thailand blows. Sorry to disparage it. But really. Its good for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks I was bored out of my skull. The tuk tuk drivers, the people selling stuff, the guys outside retaurants, the taxi drivers, the hawkers, the ordinary people...bothering me all day. I wanted to just walk from point A to point B in peace. Impossible in Thailand. You walk 20 metres and 100 people will try and get something from you or to sell you something, and they dont take a polite no. You have to scream right in their face (I did this three times with 3 different taxi drivers) to leave you alone. Didnt feel much like a vacation. I imagine living with that crap would give me a stroke.

The food is so overrated too.

Korean weather sucks but Im left alone and I dont feel like Im living in a 3rd world hell hole.

Probably, but people don't work in Thailand to save money. Its all about quality of life, beaches, diving, nightlife, tropical weather, etc

I think this is targated mainly to tourists. LIVING in thailand outside of the touritsy areas like pattaya, Phuket, etc or speaking Thai well is probaby an entirely different experiece...Plus its still nowhere near the level of say, India (from what ive heard)

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked And Korean food is that much more superior? The same recycyled weeds meets and bean paste thrown together in different combinations? Thai cusine is WORLD FAMOUS and many people go to Thailand SPECIFICALLY to study cooking...oh well to each his own I guess...

I guess I couldnt live with no money in my bank account. Sometime you have to grow up and start saving for the future. Also, being married, I cant waste my life on play.

It was just as bad in BKK. And comparing it to India, doesnt do much to persuade me.

Korean food isnt the best. Then again, it doesnt have any unwarranted reputation as some awesome cuisine. I had some VILE food in Thailand.

Just curious, where in Bangkok did you say? I found the area around Kho San Road to be really bad for hasseling but the Siam Square/downtown area to be not as bad and definately more "Thai"

Couldnt tell you the name of the area. I stayed in two hotels. One would be in the area close to the Korean embassy. I also stayed in the Royal Hotel, near the Royal Palace. I did go all over the city though, and it was bad everywhere.

I'd rather live in a 3rd world hell hole than a second world dump.

hehe. So go:)

Oh wait, YOU CANT:) Must be really crappy to have to live in a place you hate.

Anyway, I live in the 1st world. Admittedly, Kangnam is almost like a country onto itself, but its still in Korea and I like it.

Back to the topic. I found leaving Korea bittersweet. It was good not to work for that pirate, but I knew I would miss the people I had dealings with on a daily basis- where I shopped, ate ect. I also knew I would miss the kids. Do I miss Korea now? Yes and no.

Sounds familiar. I came back to Canada from Korea 3 times on December 21st. Christmas was always better back home.

eh, i wouldn't. I'd choose korea over Yemen, sudan, bangladesh, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, etc any day of the week.

On the other hand, I'd rather live in a nice 3rd world country such as thailand vs. a 2nd world dump though Smile. Malaysia would be very nice as well, as would Indonesia. I'd choose them over Korea.

And I'm not surprised you had vile food in Thailand; no country is devoid of poor restaurants.
