| What's the deal with them? I had 30 cabs with the "bin Cha" lit up just drive right by me only to slow to see where the group of Koreans beyond me wanted to go. My middle finger is now sore today from having to flip off so many cabbies. |

yeah they are a bunch of idiots!
best thing to do is.. walk up to the cop who is patroling traffic and tell him no cabbie will stop for you.. watch him.. he will stop a cab dead on and put you in it.. and tell the cabbie to take you.. NO CHOICE!
cabs look for the more money rides.. but its illegal!
cops will sort you out.. give it a try..
use to work for me when I was using local transportation.. |

| Or...if you are going somewhere close (like Itaewon) tell them you are going somewhere far (like Nowon-Gu) and then just get out near where you are really going. the drivers get pissed, but *beep* em... |

| It's not a foreigner thing dummy, It happens to everyone, especially at night. I had 30 cabbies pass me. It really sucks there in the middle of the night. |

right...that's why they blew by me and stopped in front of the group of Koreans. Gimme a break it's not a foreigner thing. |

| No, it's not a foreigner thing. I get a cab when I am going far, but it's hard to get one when going close. They pass many Koreans too. |

Another factor is shift change: if you are trying to get a taxi when the employed drivers are heading back to base, it can be difficult unless you are heading in the same direction.
One shift change seems to occur at 3pm. |

If you notice, all Koreans will be yelling their destination into the cab as the cabbie is slowly going by. He is trying to pick up people who are close to the fair that he already has in the cab. It is way for him to make extra money. I have done the yelling thing and I get treated just like everyone else. About a 1/40 chance of getting a cab. When in Rome...
There are a couple of thing I would like to see Korean people band together and put a stop to. There needs to be some kind of national campaign on this (or just plain enforcement). I wish I could change Rome... |

Not often, but ocassionally it certainly IS how one looks, I'm afraid... (and I HATE playing the racial card here, but I've seen some obvious cases).
Last week I was waiting at a corner in Incheon by a subway station with not-so-frequent taxi access. Some 30-ish aged woman comes and stands maybe 10 ft up-road of me to catch a cab, and she certainly knew that I was there first and for the same reason. Sure enough, next cab comes, my hand goes out, and the asshat breezes right by and picks up the woman. They both knew completely what they were doing.
I'm certainly not miserable in this country, otherwise I'd leave, but when stuff like that happens (not TOO frequently), it puts a bit of a stain on the day.

Fruitcake said that he didn't even get a chance to tell them where he was going. So all arguments in the vein of "You weren't going where he was going, so deal with it." are completely null and void.
Are you really that surprised to see this sort of behaviour? From taxi drivers?
My friend (ethnic Korean if that helps) gets into cabs now, doesn't say anything, takes a phone photo of the driver's registration card before ANYTHING. Then he tells the cabbie where he wants to go.
Cabbie gets a bit pissed off, but it ends up being a big fare anyway.
Either way, there's a lot to be desired when it comes to Korean cabbies.

I like how you villianise the woman who is just trying to get a taxi just like you. That takes class.  |
