| These all have to do with system errors. Turn off your error reporting service and see what happens and disable restart on error option in your bios menu. It would also be a good idea to figure out what caused the error. Go to your Administrative Services in control panel and find out what was causing the error. You likely got a blue screen of death as well, was there a driver, device, irq or error code listed? It is very difficult for anyone to help you with your description of what happened. A boom could be caused by any of a million factors. |

i think it was the drivers.
got a message that said:
ati2evxx.exe was changed to...
ati3duag.dll was changed to.....
atidvag.dll was changed to....
everything seems fine now after the restore. |

| I had the same problems with my ati drivers earlier this year. I had to replace my video card over it. If your drivers keep giving you a problem, you could use Omega drivers which are basically an upgraded beta version of the ATI drivers. Demophobe recently put up a link for these drivers so you may want to do a search or ask him what it was. |

The Omega drivers are only modified for certain things, with compatability not being one of them.
T-dot....what ws the game? Was is bought or downloaded? What incarnation of ATI drivers are you using? Did you get them from the ATI site? Are you using SP2? Is this on a desktop or a laptop? Are you running with DX9.0c? What kind of card do you have?
Many people don't upgrade their drivers very often, as perhaps they don't know how or don't think it's relevant. Maybe they just don't think of it. I am not commenting at all on people here, especially you, T-dot, but just outlining some of the common problems people face with drivers.
Personally, if I had this kind of problem, I wouldn't use any 3rd-party drivers at all, even the trusted Omegas. Start fresh.
Download the latest DX version from MS.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx?url=/windows/directx/downloads/default.htm
Download the Catalyst 4.12 from ATI. http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
Download Driver Cleaner. http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DriverHeaven_Driver_Cleaner/1056384838/1
Install DX. Reboot.
Uninstall the ATI drivers from your system. Reboot into "Safe Mode". (F8 on boot)
Run Driver Cleaner in "Safe Mode". Reboot nomally.
Install new graphics driver.
This should solve your problem. Make sure you have all drivers updated....sound, video, mainboard (yes, mainboards need drivers as well...in fact, they are paramount)...Sisoft Sandra will tell you all you need to know about your system for you to download the appropriate files.
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html?dir=dload&location=sware_dl_3264&langx=en&a=
Run some of the modules and get your mainboard type, sound card type (even if it's onboard, it needs drivers). Post back if you have any problems seeing this info.
Edit: Intel mainboards require you to go to the Intel site for the ".inf update utility" found here:
http://developer.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/inf.htm
VIA drivers can be found here:

Sandra won't tell you to update anything....nothing will. It will tell you what parts are in your computer. I think you need to re-read my post....it's fairly clear as to what I think you should do.
Laptop, desktop....all need drivers. Very possible you haven't enough horsepower in various departments to run the game, although the minimum requirements are low.
"It's a laptop" says nothing. Make and model....? (This is crucial)
"loaded something from ati" You don't know what you load?
"Those files...." What files?
No one can help you if you can't say anything in detail. |

Since the restore, is it working properly when you run warcraft 3? If it is, then don't worry about it.
ATI drivers control your display so if you delete them, things won't look right on your screen and games will likely not run. |
