Just what is the "American way of life" that I keep hearing on AFN all the time? They talk about protecting it...but I (as a non-American) have no idea how it might be any different from my own way of life...any hints?? |

I think the "American way of life" revolves around baseball and hotdogs. Trust me, they need as much protection as possible. |

Cheap gas for your SUV and the right to own automatic weapons, regardless of the impact on the rest of the world. |

I'm not gonna get into the semii America bashing that's starting to develop here but the whole" our way of life" thing is propaganda- plain and simple. It's writen by soldiers, for soldiers and it's pretty obviously meant to contrast with the enemy's way of life, so either communisim here ( North Korea) or life under Shar'i'ya(SP?) Muslim law. |

You anti Americans need a little Zen like slience. No response at all...just avoid, avoid, avoid. You're making yourself nuts and probably everyone else in your life. Maybe you're lonely and deserve pity, but not the power to waste my or anyone's time by trying to respond. |

AFN really does spout some BS. I saw one quick report where they were talking about some americans and koreans working together in Iraq to fight off "bad guys" they actually used those words. |

You have to understand that AFN is *not* a typical American network. It is for soldiers. AFN accepts no "outside" advertising, so they have to fill it with spots used to boost morale and promote the PXes on base.
What you see in between Oprah and the OC is generally propaganda or some kind of pseudo-educational tidbit, not advertising. I'm wondering if people in Australian or Canadian military bases are subjected to the same thing.

AFN: Not for you, for THEM
I have to admit, I just sit back and laugh at the crappy ads half the time. You can tell no outside sources funded the spots. |

I like the AFN "Profiles of Freedom". heheh AFN is a big propaganda machine for half brained GIs. I wonder how low your IQ has to be to buy that crap. |

For what it's worth, I've joked about some of those announcements with a few military types. Without exception, they've been as bemused as I was by those spots. |

I've met about 5 GIs now, and none of them have been anywhere near the stereotypical image I had of them. The last one studied political science at uni and was complaining about the lack of manners amongst his fellow soldiers |

Come to think of it- the only really dumb GI I've met here was working for AFN. When I made some crack about one of the commercials, he got a little huffy and said it had won awards.
Maybe the people that are too dumb to handle a gun are placed in the propaganda (AFN) dvision? |
