Has anyone gotten TESOL Certification in Thailand?? I heard there was a cheap reputable place in Thailand to get it done in less than a month. I want to get it done this summer while taking my vacation in Thailand.
Anyone have any info / website references they would like to share? I tried the Training Forum, but no replies... |

Try a Google search (or webcrawler of choice).
For a start, here is one:
http://www.eccthai.com/
I had a friend do his in Barcelona 2 years ago - great choice for a city, methinx.

I took the TEFL course in Thailand also when I was on vacation. Good school in Phuket town. The name was Via Lingua school, but now its TEFL International. Its well run and about $1,500 for the 120 hour course. Well worth the effort and has helped me here in Korea, especially the classroom management section. |

I did my CELTA at ECC in Bangkok...it was great - learned a lot and had lots of fun! Bangkok's a great time!
Wherever you get your certificate, make sure it's through Cambridge or Trinity, otherwise you're wasting your time and money as most reputable schools only recognise these two.
Even if the work load is the same, you wont get the same recognition for it ~ am I making sense? It's so late here..
Try eccthai.com
Good luck! |

Hey Fonz,
Folks already gave you some good links. Don't be fooled by the short (about 3-4 weeks) course. It's pretty intensive. Try to get the material, such as books in advance. As well, when you are doing your actual teaching, just relax. Wait a minute. I'm talking to the Fonz here! He's always in control.
I haven't seen any jukeboxes there but then I didn't go to the Hard Rock Cafe in Bangkok either.

Will the TESOL certificate help you get a better job, in the long run? I have been here three years already. I have signed up with ECC Thai to do the TESOL course this summer... I hope it helps me with my job options!! |

I just ckecked out www.eccthai.com. It seemed dodgy. Isn't it strange that the site keeps referring to an "Introduction to TESOL Certificate?" Shouldn't it just be TESOL? I may be reading into this too much but it can't hurt to be too cautious. I'm worried that it might be some alternative bogus degree.
What can anyone share with us on ECC in Thailand anyhow? thanks! |

ECC Thai isn't dodgy. It's done through Cambridge university and it's a great course taught by fantastic instructors.
The introductory TESOL course is 2 weeks and it is meant to be a warmer to the CELTA. It's not necessary to take it before the CLETA though. And the TESOL isn't like the TESOL through Trinity which is a 4 week gig. If you want a great job somewhere besides Korea, the CELTA or Trinity TESOL will really help you. They're widely recognised and respected. There are a lot of others that are dodgy out there...some are even advertised on Dave's. |

Why does everyone who posts about TEFL International seem like they work for their advertising department? |

Is the ECC school in Bangkok satisfy the 120 hour requirement for TESOL? It sounds good but nowhere does it say the number of hours. Does anyone know of any ones in Thailand that satisfy the 120 hours?? Thanks |

I did the TESOL at ECC 2 months agonReally good fun and a great intro to doing a CELTA. The course is 2 weeks, and you teach 3 times in the 2nd week. 15 mins of teaching vocab, 20 mins on a reading activity and 15 mins on a fun/game activity. I really enjoyed it, but outside of asia i don't think it's recognised.Great trainers and worth the money for newbies. |

Go for ECC Thailand's CELTA. It's been over a year and I still have fond memories. The Brits running the place are a bit standoffish, but it's their schtick and they certainly know what they're doing as far as the program goes. The other people in my class were great to work and party with. You can't help but make lots of friends.
The course is more useful to what I do in my classes than either my teaching degree or my MEd, at a fraction of the cost or time. |
