| If I buy an XBOX here I want to play all my DVDs on it. Is there a way to do that? |

If anyone cares, there is a thing called Region X which only works with PAL I believe...
If you have NTSC or can't find Region X in stock, the only way I've found is... modding it.
Tough when I live so far from Seoul hehe. |

| Sorry if I'm an idiot, but what is PAL? I have an XBOX from the States and I'd like to play Korean DVDs on it, but I have no idea how to do that. |

Hi....u don't sound like an idiot to me, cause I have no clue about any of this myself.
I'm thinking of getting a PS2 and I'd like to ask the same questions, along with, how and where would you get a PS2 modded? And would this modification cover dvds and games? Also, do the cheap games for sale in Itaweon actually work? |

PAL is a TV system used in Japan and Europe. Korea and North America both use the NTSC system.
However, for DVDs it's a bit trickier. Most DVDs are region specific. Although American and Korean DVDs are both NTSC format, they have different region codes: North America is part of Region 1 and Korea is part of Region 3. To play a Region 1 DVD, you need a player that plays Region 1. In Korea, that would mean bringing a DVD player from the states, or buying a region free DVD player here. I don't know about the X-Box. I assume that they would be region specific, so if that's the case and it's from the states, you won't be able to play Korean DVDs on it unless you get it modded to make it a region-free DVD player. |

I'm not entirely sure about XBoxes, but here's what I did for my PS2: it's Korean-bought (and therefore Region 3), and I've got a ton of Region 1 (North America) DVD's. So I bought an "ACTION REPLAY" boot disc. It's like the Gameshark from back home, I think. Pop it in, boot it up, and you can select your DVD region. It cost 35,000 at the TechnoMart at Gangbyeon, but you seem to be able to get them anywhere games are sold. I'm not sure if they have one for XBox or not.
Problem is, it doesn't do squat for games. And the new GTA is in the mail on its way to me from Canada right now. To play that, I'd need to put in a Mod chip. I have no clue where to get one. I'd really, really like to find out though, if anyone has any thoughts. |

My mistake. I guess I got confused because Japan and Europe are both Region 2. |
