I was thrilled last Christmas to find most of the bake shops in Seoul selling Panettone (Italian christmas cake). It's just not Christmas without sharing a nice panettone with friends or coworkers. This year none of the bake shops seem to have it. I did see some at Carrefour in the foreign foods section. Is panettone the christmas equivalent of Beaujolais Nouveau in Korea? In one year, out the next?
(Panettone is that weird boxed cake you see for sale in and around Italian communities and you think "it can't possibly be any good... looks like it's been sitting on the shelf for months and must dry as all hell" but you discover is soft and lemony and sweet and wonderful and goes good with a cuppa joe.) |

If you're Catholic in an Ontario labor town you go to school with a lot of Italians and you become an honorary Italian. |

I bought three at Carrefour tonight. Man won each. One to share with coworkers Friday night. One as a gift for the good ladies at the Starbucks I go to in the morning. And one for me to eat. |
