Fad? I dunno. It's played nearly everyday by first graders at my hagwon.

It's soon to become something of the past....so at the moment it could be a fad, as were those handheld games.

I wouldn't say that ddak ji is a fad. They've been playing it for years! A "fad" is usually a one-season deal.

I've never been to Popeye's. The biscuits were literally green???

Think that's because they were made with whatever it is they make green tea with. Just a new promotion.

The kids were doing that in 1997 - it's not a fad.

Either way, it's just unnatural and wrong.

When I came a year ago it was yugio cards. Then it became dakji. Then it became this weird game where they have to pick up and slam down these stone cubes. (Why do they think they can play that unnoticed in class?) And then they started playing this dakji like game but with slips of paper. Now I've noticed yo-yos are making their way into the classroom.

Grrr.

fad n. A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze.

There are things that can be called fads even though they're present to some degree within a culture for decades. Yo-yos are always going in and out of fashion, becoming the "latest" fad. A fad doesn't have to mean something new. Just something that's suddenly seemingly everywhere and then goes back to being so much background radiation.

I found it fascinating when I learned that the old space lizard mini series V had Koreans by the go choo during its broadcast here.

Yes, some things can last years and still be considered a fad. Depends on the time frame you're looking at when you say fad. Break dancing was a big fad for years.

I agre, Board Game Cafes.

A current fad are those horse racing places. I can't see them lasting.

How about Dance Dance Revolution?

Lord of the Rings, Shrek, and just wait until the new Star Wars movie comes out. It will be Ʈ ̹ everything.
