It's vacation planning time for my February holiday and I definitely need some advice. I'm looking at going to either the Philippines, Thailand or Bali/Lombok depending on what prices I'm qouted for each. I definitely need to spend several days on an amazing beach and was thinking about hitting up Boracay or perhaps Phuket. I'm looking at the need for cheap accomodations and am wondering what kinds of places and prices these places have? I also want to spend a couple days outside of the resort areas, so is it better to fly straight into Bangkok/Manilla? Any advice would definitely be appreciated.

You might find something now to Thailand, but if you travel during the Lunar New Year, like I thought about doing, the cheapest fare to Bangkok on Thai Air is KW740,000 + taxes. Before, and after the holiday it's around KW550,000.

February is one of the best months to visit the Phillipines. However, that being so, you would be very hard pressed to find a good deal on accomodation on Boracay that month.

As for Bali, February is smack in the middle of the rainy season. Accomodation will be cheap, but not a good time to visit.

I've never been to Manila bevfore, but I've heard it's quite a hole. However, you might have to fly there anyway to get to Boracay. As for Thailand, definately fly into Bangkok and check it out for a couple days.

I loved the Phillipines but I went on a Korean package tour (hey, it was free for me!)Very Happy Since I was under a guide I didn't really know how easy it was to move around on one's own in the country. I'm sure the Phillipines would have been better without a Korean package tour...Koreans, man....in the Phillipines and all they would go to were Korean restaurants Evil or Very Mad I want to give Phillipines another go because I really liked the people there. Boracay is nice. Manilla is messy and our guide forbid my K. boyfriend and I to leave the hotel in Manilla, basically saying we would be stabbed/killed/robbed whatever but I think she was being a tad dramatic. Great, great scuba diving there.
Thailand was great. I was at Ko Samet which is a small island. Thailand is very easy to travel around since you'll find a score of day travel agencies on Kho Shan road in Bankok. You pay for a tour to wherever you go and then a van will pick you up and take you where you want to go. Loved how easy it was to get around. And of course, the Thailand nightlife/bars was great. Cusions provided by bars you can sit on the sand and drink beers with friends is absolute heaven. Hotels were pretty easy to get in Thailand (but the ones in Phuket might be smashed up) and I went during the peak season in February. You might want to try a different island than phuket though right now. Ko Samui is another very popular choice with travelers..Me, I liked the more small islands like Ko Samet and Ko Chang.
Overall, I think I enjoyed the Phillipines the most but maybe that's because my boyfriend and I weren't fighting as much Wink Thailand seems easier to navigate through though if you are looking for a less stressful time. Your choice. I'm sure you'll be happy with any decision (hey, why not Vietnam?)
