Laughing I was thinking the same thing.

I'm sure having a Ph.D. would not hurt your chances in the job market, but I read somewhere that about half the people with a Ph.D. are not able to get work as college professors. And, judging from my time in school, many professors do not stay in one place for a long time, due largely it seems to school politics. Take that into consideration as well as the massive debt you are likely to incur if you pursue a Ph.D.

It is not difficult to return to school after being in the job market! If anything, your "real world" experience will motivate you to go back to school and study harder than you ever have.

Also, don't over-estimate the effects of age. You might not feel as old as you think you will as you near 30.

Personally, I know that if I don't go this year (after graduating undergrad in June) chances are I'll never grab the chance again.

I'll be 22 when I graduate, and while I do plan to complete my masters ASAP, I have to face my financial reality. A year in Korea will go a long way towards paying off my 12k student loan, a year working in the office/sipping coffee and collecting a paycheck is going to fade away before I even realize 12 months have passed, i'll fall into a comfort zone and be unwilling to give up the steady paycheck, and my debt will only grow....leaving graduate school a more distant goal.

A year in Korea, (for me), will enable me to take that next step towards the eventual PhD.

Doesn't hurt that I speak a decent chunk of Korean, am soon to be engaged to my Korean girl, and loved my time in Korea this past summer.
...Oh, and cheap readily available booze. That too.
